@rudolphreviews Hi there So we both enjoyed the 2nd grade material. The 3rd grade material is good, but he is questioning "why" he needs to learn math, so he is not loving this 😂 I have been very impressed with the Teacher’s guide. Remi, on the other hand, is at that age where he just wants to get it done. This takes the student through various ways to get to the answer. It reminds me of Singapore, but it has more substance to the problem, which is why he groans when we do math. I have pulled out Singapore for him to do alongside this. Hope that helps 😉

Nothing in particular. My son is third grade too and I’ve really only seen FIAR for younger kids not for this grade. So anything you wanna talk about or maybe a flip through of some of the teacher’s guide if you have it would be good.

@@HomeschoolingwithHeart223 I would live to see more about this also. I think our homeschool really needs this but I am worried having a 4th grader to make the change. I would just like to know how it is working for your 4th grader and how you schedule it or the rather along with your other choices that you are still using. What works for you? Thank you and I hope to see a video from you soon. I’ve seen many others asking about FIAR for this age. It is very hard to find content. I really think that we need this.

I love those little books! Thanks for the tip, I will check them out. As far as Sonlight L.A. goes, it didn't fit our style. It may in the future if we continue with the readers, but for now, it just doesn't work for us and the way Remi learns. I do believe they have great readers for the different age groups, which is why I have continued using Sonlight for his readers. Thanks for the question 💖

One source is Chat GBT it's also on the search engine BING AI can do anything from making beautiful art to writing an essay in seconds. My daughter is high functioning autistic and I have to tailor her entire curriculum to be visual since her brain works in pictures. There is an exercise you can use with kids to help them create images in their heads when they read to help remember and comprehend stories. While making the pictures you also look up and to the right I believe. Some children see images and some need help building the skills to see images. It helps to start at a young age. I believe one person who explains the exercises is Dianne Craft. She may be on youtube.

That's good to know. He can see images just fine. I'm the one that can't see them, and just found out that seeing images is a thing 😁 If there are exercises I can do at my age I might try. @@HomeschoolingwithHeart223 Dianne Craft actually does a lot of exercises with adults . Some exercises were aimed at adults and modified for children. Some of her work she did with athletes and then adapted it for children . I understand you have lived this long without it and may not be interested. Your video just immediately reminded me of these exercises Because I was opposite of you. I thought everyone saw images and when I found her I realized some people don't. Working with children I realized some did Not see these images or make these images in their heads and a lot of times these same children had difficulty in reading comprehension or paying attention. I had a problem comprehending and paying attention when a story was read to me. I needed to read it myself. Some of her stuff helped me in that area. Everyone learns differently and none of it is wrong but sometimes things can be made easier Or sometimes whole new worlds can be opened up you didn't know existed. Happened with me ha. I just wanted to share in case you were interested. Not trying to push it though. Thank you for your video. Also, my images do freak me out. Like you mentioned you may be freaked out I have very vivid dreams and usually I am lucid so I know I am dreaming but it can be horrific. Also one of the reasons i couldn't pay attention when someone read is because each word or phrase took on a whole world of images so narrowing it down to just the story I was hearing was difficult. So opposite problem of some people But can be just as difficult.

@@MariaMaria-sr8zg Thank you! I appreciate you commenting and sharing this information with me, and others, who may find this helpful. One of the reasons I love creating content is being able to talk to y'all in the comment section!! It makes my day when people are willing to comment and especially when people offer a piece of advice or try to help. Thank you for that 💖 For me, I find that I have to shut things down because I feel so deeply. I can kind of relate to what you're saying, but instead of images it's like I can feel the experience. When something is read to me, or a story is on the news, I will have to tune it out, if it is even remotely intense, because I can actually feel what that person is probably going through. Sometimes I will just cry, or even become very anxious and I have to change the channel, or come back to the book. Now I think (knowing about the images) perhaps instead of seeing images, I get feelings 🤷‍♀️ The thing that I love about social media is the information that is now available to us and the vast information we are finding out about one another. The unique qualities we each have and the similar qualities we share. I appreciate your comment and thank you again for being helpful, and for sharing your experience 💖

Thank you for sharing what else your using. I was having a similar issue with my 2nd grader. Sometimes she will just try to fill in the word or take a word such as “tap” and sound it out slow and then when she says it, it will be more like “pat”. So the same letters but she adds the ending sound to the beginning (sometimes). If you do any computer time something that seems to have help her as well (extra practice) is the program “reading eggs”. They have a free 30 day trial. They have a Program on there called “fast phonics”. They can take an assessment and it will put them at their own level. It has a lot of practice / Repetition. you can also adjust it. They have print out worksheets as well. To my daughters 4 & 7, it seems more like a game and it lets them earn coins to get things, so they like it. We have also been doing their math-seeds program as well. Anyway I wasn’t sure if it was hard to get him to want to do the work or not. I just wanted to add another suggestion. Sometimes it’s hard to get my 7 year old to do the Phonemic awareness/phonics because it doesn’t come as easy for her. My 4 year old has learned m,a,s,I,T,L and she’s catching on quick to the letters and sounds.

Thank you for the suggestions💖 He used reading eggs and he lost interest. However, thinking back, I may have tried it too early. I used it when he was in 1st grade and he did the same thing with short vowels. The sounds finally clicked when we started using Explode the code. Last year when we started the long vowel teams he did fine, but when we started reading higher level books he started guessing again. I felt like I needed to oversee, and be more involved, to see if he is just struggling or if something else is going on. He is getting over the "hump" In his speech, which also happens to be the middle blends, and I feel like the reading will follow (that's what I'm I hoping) Thank you again for the wonderful suggestions 😉 I appreciate it very much!!

All About Reading is amazing! I have only good things to say, they saved what's left of my sanity. AAR has a free letter sounds app.

First, I love your laugh 😍 I have been told the same "Oh, they will get it when they pick up context words" like you I just do not want to let it be. You mentioned your grandson's speech delay, do you think this has factored in with his struggle? I ask because my daughter has a speech Delay and we are experiencing the same type of issue. Thanks for sharing this.

Hi there! Yes! I do believe that his delay has affected his reading, especially phonetic sounds. He is actually working on articulating the middle sounds in speech, and it just so happens that is what we are focused on with his reading. I have found that when he is just reading out loud with a reader if I don't correct him as much he enjoys reading. I do correct him when we are "learning" to read. I have found that if I separate the two, he enjoys reading out loud much more in class and for fun. I hope that made sense. I'm even bouncy when I type 😄 I do apologize for the late response. I have had an app update and am not seeing responses for a few days 😕 Hopefully, this gets corrected soon. I hope I answered your question. Best wishes to you and yours on your reading journey thus year 😉

I highly recommend The Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading. Especially for kids that are struggling. My son was reading well before 5 because we worked through that program. Not because either of us is awesome. The grace of God blessed it but still, I couldn't teach him letter sounds and that's why I started before 3.

What grade does 5 in a Row go up to? I’ve been so intrigued by hearing what other KZbin mamas say about it! It seems like everyone who uses it absolutely loves it!

@@HomeschoolingwithHeart223 No. I have a daughter who's behind in math. She technically should be in 4th grade but hasn't learned multiplication yet.

I almost ordered this a few months ago. I saw a flip through and it looked fantastic. I didn't order it because I couldn't find information on it. I would be very interested in seeing a flip through, along with hearing your thoughts on this program. I agree it did look like a mixture of all of those you mentioned. I'm looking forward to your updates 😊

I like Singapore Math for my son, we started with pre-k, but I have to tell you. There were some rough days. In fact, we only worked through 1A for the whole year of kindergarten because he simply could not remember the procedures. I have a normal kid. He'd get it and then we'd go to bed and he'd forget. Now, having said that, he recently assessed at a second grade level for math and he's just old enough to start kindergarten this year however, math is a language and not one we're naturally gifted at so I felt the sooner the better. Given the way kids pick up language better before 5. And now, it's so much more pleasant. It really is, it's so much better. Math is one of those things that's just, ugh, difficult to get a good match with. I hope you found yours!

I hope so too. 💖 Remi enjoys Singapore and I love it. My brain works the way that they break things down and he likes that they show different ways to get to the answer. He did 1A and B last year and we started 2A. We will pick up 2A again this semester. Having said that, I am with you on how the problems may look in the future. Math is going to become more, and more difficult and I don't know what the future books, or the Teacher’s Guide for that matter, will look like for Singapore. This is why I have another Math. I want something that will be his constant. I hope I have found it with the direction we are going using Apologia. Apologia breaks down the problem for the child. So It is teaching them, instead of having them "follow along" Apologia uses the same method that he is accustom to using, so he doesn't need to change direction using it, which is why I went with it. The other reason It is that is shows the student the "what" and the "how" in order to form the conclusion to the answer. That was a huge selling point! Best wishes to you and yours for this Homeschool year! As always, I enjoy our conversations. Take care of you 💖😉

I just thought of something. He may genuinely never want anything to do with a nature walk but I bet he would enjoy learning how to forage for wild edibles and hunting and tracking and shelters with your husband. And it would give you a break. You could just send them outside when you're not feeling well. And he could make his own notebook of things he's found unique to your area. Including a little map and he could do compass and land navigation with him. That's not too hard for a boy that age. You might have a hard time getting him to come back in though!

Oh my goodness, Thank you! You reminded me that we have a curriculum on natural medicine that he has been wanting to try, so maybe we will use our "nature walk" to forage a little bit. On the insects - That child would get bitten by a bug just thinking of it. They are attracted to him even with a couple of coats of spray. He's a trooper though :) Thank you again for the idea! We have the campfire curriculum that I think we will use to start the year off with 💖
