That is the most honest explanation it has ever! That was the question I asked another coach a few minutes ago: What is the conspiracy here? I never work out! And here we are; you have already answered this wisely; thank you:-)

@@do3swimbikerun Oh wow, that is another honest explanation! Thank you for that. At the same time, it is sad to hear that. How on earth could a coach accept something they haven't experienced yet. Swimming is all about experience. Yes, of course, it will help, as this question has been hung on my head for a while. Losing unnecessary time to apply this 'myth' in my own training. You know what? This video encouraged me to jump into the pool and prove right! Thank you again.

I'm 68 and this tool is relentless in a workout. Absolutely indispensable, I've used them for about 8 years. My only complaint...if you fall behind on pace it shows no mercy and just grinds you down ha! Do not set it at a pace you can not manage. You can trim your intervals in small increments that are manageable. No wonder youngsters are better and faster these days with equipment like this. Sadly I was told I couldn't use it in a race. My training partner suggested we swim a "different" set the other day. Very simple 4 x 100m free on 6m 30s from a push off. I didn't use the Tempo Trainer but these are my times. 78, 78, 78, 78. I hadn't been below 80 for ages. I was tired afterwards but was more than happy with my input and consistency. Any coach who doesn't work with a Tempo Trainer is selling the student short. For any swimmer of any age who wants to improve their times this is where you start. Just buy one. Good video.👍

Nice bar tape, I got the same :-) For me, it is easier to remove the handlebar, but let the stem on the fork. Just four screws with the torque wrench instead of aiming for a straight stem and trying to get the right amount of pressure for the cap. Ymmv, of course.

I am a slow long distance swimmer and began using the Finis Stroke trainer last month. ALL my times have improved: From 100m all the way up through to 3km. I started slow with Mode 3 on 40 strokes for a week (about 3 or 4 swims), then in increments of +1 for the following week and so on. My 400m time has gone from 10:22 to 8:48 in 5 weeks. Note: I am 64 and only started swimming last August doing breaststroke then switched to front crawl in February. The trainer works (I am not paid to advertise this) and I would recommend it to anyone who is serious (or frustrated) about getting smoother and faster. You get smoother by concentrating on technique as your timing is being taken care of. You can also play around with Modes 1 & 2 and make your own ‘fun’ challenges.

I thought UNCO drill was specifically intended to encourage earlier breathing! That suggests that most people breathe too late not too early. I certainly did. I nearly drowned when I first started doing UNCO. I think the best freestylers breathe as they extend their recovery arm after it has entered the water. That coincides with the end of the propulsive part of the stroke, maximal rotation to the side, and the start of the recovery. By the time your recovery arm hand is entering the water you are beginning to rotate back towards flat followed by turning to the opposite side. You need to have finished breathing by then or you will be breathing in water. Presumably you are encountering people who try to breathe just before their recovery arm enters the water. Incredibly difficult I would imagine given that you haven't finished the stroke or reached maximal rotation.
