It is necessary to change over to descender on the main line before making the move back up over the edge. Not doing so, and making the move in the chest croll, risks slacking the rope and, in the event of a slip or failed step, shock loading a toothed device, risking damage to the main climbing line. For this same reason, going up over an edge while in the chest croll, during an irata L1 assessment would be an automatic fail.

One small remark. If You would like to build most efficient hauling system the best pulley (with highest efficiency) should be used as a last one. In your system Petzl rescue should be placed as redirect pulley next to ID and fixe connected to ascension. The difference in efficiency is about 13% :)

This might have changed at somepoint which I don't know when, in the classroom you have to switch over to your desender and fully off the crawl before going up and over the edge.
@adamlee2550 Жыл бұрын
I think that might be to do with 'rescue in descent' for level 1s. That is the only kind of rescue we are taught to do within IRATA, but I don't know if it's the same with SPRAT.
@Hylive9 ай бұрын
definitely this, going over in the croll has potential to shock load if you fall back and croll is a toothed device so that's putting the rope in danger of being cut

What do you mean? It's still simplier than the irata rescue, no ascender left behind.

I’m curious what you use as your pickoff strap. It looks like a quick draw but can’t really tell from the video.

Hi David, fantastic videos. You are the smoothest operator on KZbin. Questions, can you inform where you bought your yellow 3' lanyards that have the eye holes on each end and what mm is the rope that you use for your foot loop? I want to make a kit to match the expert. 😄

I’ve never heard of the croll being considered a “half point of contact” I also only use ducks not asaps in America so maybe that’s why, I wish we used asaps :( but either way, we always carry 2 backups at all times to pass anything without too much work

Now tell me how you need to lower him now that you have two toothed devices right next to each other! This teaching is backwards from IRATA!

nice one, just don't "straddle" him or touch his Axx without giving the post a PG 15+ rating, have the sensors on your case otherwise.
