what a very nice wooden board Jokes aside, love the crochet ! But man*, that doesn't look very beginner-friendly- is it ?
@soapsandcrochet1
@soapsandcrochet1 11 ай бұрын
The joke tickled me so no worries there, as I too have a sense of humor. I am glad you liked the results. What I have found on my crochet journey is that most crocheter note a difference in those who are just learning to crochet (not familiar with the basic stitches) and a beginner who is. My apologies if my wording was confusing. When I said "beginner" I meant some one who was at least familiar with how to hold the yarn, hook, knew how to chain, and the 4 basic stitches (single, double, half double, and treble stitches). That way I could condense the tutorial and not have to film as long without losing the viewer. If I lost you, it is truly my error and one I shall not repeat. I am grateful for your feedback and thank you for sharing. I will consider a redo soon as it truly is a beginners pattern (skilled or unskilled). Have a wonderful evening and thanks again.

just a thought, do you think that coconut milk and clove would be a good mixture? I'm really looking forward to making my own soap just want to get some good ideas before I start. Your videos are helping by the way
@soapsandcrochet1
@soapsandcrochet1 Жыл бұрын
Are you asking to ADD them to the oils you use to make soap or just those two ingredients to make soap? I added them to my oils and butters for this soap :) you may also use the coconut milk as a substitute for water in your lye solution :) However, you would need to draw the oil from the meat of the coconut to add with it's milk to make soap. Coconut milk alone doesn't have enough fat in it to make soap with just it. Also coconut oil alone would be so cleansing it would dry out the skin so be ready with a moisturizer 😉 or add either olive or avocado oil or even shea butter to it to balance cleansing with moisturizing properties. Let me know if I didn't understand your question. Thank you for stopping by.

I really do like this recipe. It came together nicely and the bars really lather up good and strong. No, I no longer sell what I make but, I am looking forward to being able to again soon. For now I am satisfied making soap for myself and family. I have started putting together a course that can be taken online through Udemy where I plan to teach beginning soaping and crochet for those who would like to learn. Once I have that completed, I will be adding a link to those classes on here for anyone who would like to participate and learn how to. I plan to offer more advanced classes on Patreon once I finish the beginners courses. Thank you for stopping by your feedback is always welcome.

Hello thank you for sharing, I am currently abroad are there any simple ingredients that I can find locally just to get started I am really interested in helping my family that have skin problems also I'm trying to stay away from all perfumes and additives, preservatives PLEASE HELP!!!!🙌✍

Indeed and thank you for asking. There are many recipes when it comes to just the oils used to create your soap. Based on what you have shared (local goods and skin problems) I would look for the following: Olive oil (for moisturizing properties), Coconut oil (natural conditioner and hardening agent to firm up the bar), and Avocado oil (natural antioxidant high in Vitamin A, B, C, D, and especially E). These would be my minimum base oils that would produce a rather frothy lather as well. You can also use ONLY Olive oil. But know that a Castile bar takes almost a YEAR to cure so patience is the key to making Olive oil only or what they call Castile. Tallow is another excellent choice, but when I use it, I have found I have to add a higher salt solution and a little bit of Coconut Oil to harden the bar. You don't want a gummy mess in the shower/bath while using it :) Now, if you can find Shea or Coco butter locally and reasonably priced, by all means add them to the final recipe :). You can also make butter bars using primarily just those two butters. When I made my butter bars I added Avocado oil but it wasn't my primary oil in the recipe the butters were :) I have completely steered away from fragrance oils as most are contaminated and prefer Essential oils for their skin healthy benefits. If you can not find clean EO's, grab the herbs and make your own. Allow them to sit/steep in oil and drain out the herbs. Make sure to research each herb so you know what they will do in soap :) The last bar I am making is one using CLOVE oil. I plan to make the EO myself using the CLOVE herb powder I purchased from HERBCO. I mention this because it is said among the many benefits of CLOVE oil, it is excellent for helping ppl who have skin issues like acne, dark spots, itchy skin (fungal issues), eczema, psoriasis, and much more, and is said to have skin tightening properties as well (close them pores). There are numerous ways CLOVE oil benefits the body both inside and out. I am making butter based bars using the CLOVE oil next so stay tuned :) Keep me posted and let me know what you were able to find locally (it doesn't have to be what I have suggested soap can be made from any oil but you do want to make sure it will do what you need it to) and I will help you calculate your recipe, Essential oil rates, etc... You will need Lye. NO LYE, NO SOAP. If you can't find lye for soap making to buy, you can make your own. If you decide to keep me in the loop and you can't find any, I will share with you the process of making lye from Wood or Coal ASH. It takes a few days before you will have usable lye but hey, it can be done :) Hope this helps and stay tuned for CLOVE oil butter bars next :)

Do you cover the soap to let it dry?
@soapsandcrochet1
@soapsandcrochet1 Жыл бұрын
Great question and thank you for asking. Now, I have used cheese cloth as a drape over the front of the shelving itself and not directly on the soap. If you plane your bars the outter skin will be removed if you are concerned about dust build up as they cure. But I do use again sheer cheese cloth to drape over the front of my shelving like a curtain and I leave adequate space between each bar to allow for air to flow as they cure. Thank you again for the question hope this helps :)
