Matilda is one of the best stories ever and it's a CHILDREN'S STORY. Because Mrs. Wormwood is actually so right in this song. The teacher (idk her name) has a problem with not being loud and therefore doesn't stand up to the principal (i forgot her name too 😭) which is her main problem.

I am 61yo, I first saw EVITA during its first run (Loni Ackerman) and I can't believe I'm going to say this. This is my favorite musical, I watch it every chance I get (except for the movie) and I was fortunate to direct it twenty years ago. Never, since 1982, have I ever been satisfied with a single performance but if this comes across my computer screen as wonderfully as it does, I can only imagine electricity I would have felt seeing it live. I don't agree with a few director's choices but it was still excellently directed, while the ensemble choreography EXECUTION could have had a bit more passion, many of the moves were genius and original. The production needed a bit more of a Latin feel to it ... but, Ms. Mayer ... you kept it fresh, your acting rivaled all others I've seen, your voice was powerful and with expert control, richness and depth. I'm so pleased that, after all these years, we have worthy production to view.

The movie was great!
@JulianChildАй бұрын
@@LouiseGardener I respect your opinion. "The movie was great," to some, was an opinion held by those who had not seen it on stage. Hollywood approached it through a toned-down more realistic angle whereas West End and Broadway was went for the theatric powerful; two stories, different telling. That's my opinion. I watched the movie and, having received vocal training ... don't get me wrong, I have very high regards for Madonna (three concerts, one I flew from Dallas to Toronto to see again), she is an historic showman, but it was obvious to me that her vocal coach was just off camera, provoking her to over-enunciate. That, and they had to lower the notes for some of the songs because she doesn't have the vocal cords for belting and supporting. It just removed a lot of the excitement for me. If you haven't seen it, yet, remember this is only a video of "A New Argentina." It'll help explain where I'm coming from. Thank you for replying civilly. I don't respond to those who are looking to argue; not to exchange ideas. ONE MORE THING! Madonna's died VERY well. Tore my heart out. kzbin.info/www/bejne/maDOqp2fqM9kj6csi=vu88OmJcQ2clCupS

Not everyone can afford to see the shows aka me growing up and even now I can go to the West End once every few years it costs a fortune so it’s the only option really (movies). I think the movie has many things going for it and it’ll always be one of my favourites. I’m actually in an amateur production of Evita this year and it’s the first time I’ve ever watched a theatrical production of Evita that wasn’t on KZbin 😂
@JulianChildАй бұрын
@@LouiseGardener Oh, have fun! I directed it about fifteen years ago and it's still the 80yo theater's highest grossing production ever. And, OMG, what you said about the cost to see a production on West End and Broadway ... TRUTH! The last show I saw cost me over $600 for two tickets; HELLO DOLLY with Midler. I just can't swing it any more. I understand the costs it takes to produce such shows but I just can't rationalize it when two-and-a half hours in a theater costs more than the life experiences such as a round-trip ticket to Paris or Rome or anyplace else in Europe. I'm single without any kids so at least I have the choice. If your local theater ever auditions for MAMMA MIA!, definitely go out for that. It's kinda silly but it was THE most fun I have ever had in any aspect of many stage productions and it was another one I had the privilege to direct.

When the movie Evita came out, a friend and I saw it. We went in the daytime and there were only a few people there. After the movie ended, we stood up to go. Since there was no more loud music, we could hear crying. It came from an older woman near the exit. I asked her if she was alright and she said she was from Argentina. She was a little girl when the Perons were in power and she remembered their home getting electricity. Her family loved her were devastated when Evita died.
@martha-anastasia4 ай бұрын
I took my parents to the movie. Mom cried at the end. She remembered Evita, even though a teen American at the time. Evita wasn't perfect, none of us are. But she did more good than harm. Her memory has been tainted by the political opponents of Peron. Look at American politicians these days, they line their pockets and do as little as possible for the people. Diamonds, Dior, high heels AND sainthood. Not many people get that!

Lovely singing voices! Very good principals. Taken as a whole, though, the performance lacks a bit of energy. This is perhaps mainly due to the lacklustre ensemble, who also don't sing sufficiently in sych to make their words clear enough. It was also a shame not to make a proper stab at the pin-sharp military marching that some productions - even the occasional high school - achieve so well.

Interesting you say that , when the play and film were first circulated Argentinians were up in arms, especially against us Brits (Falklands , 1992). the whole country rubbished it, said it was inaccurate and portrayed the Country and residents in a very poor light.

@barryhinson98193 ай бұрын
Hear, hear to that. Military Juntas and aristocrats that were blind to poverty and only cared about their own interests. Eva and Peron himself wanted to free the shackles of the down trodden - and they suceeded.
