I've had this on repeat this December as I'm writing my dissertation on paganism in Thomas Hardy's Richard Jefferies' depictions of nature. This song definitely has pagan vibes. Plus, the harmonies are outstanding!

Beautiful! Always leaves me thinking which one is more beautiful, Darke's or Holst's version. Now its Darke.

The high points for me are at 1.04 "Fall on your knees" and at 3.05 "Christ is the Lord". Simply sublime.

Sang this in the school chamber choir as a christmas song. It's works beautifully as a seasonal/christmas song and I struggle to see it any other way now!

I never thought I'd hear a more beautiful rendition of 'O Holy Night' than Eric Theodore Cartman's, but, here we are.

This lovely song was playing on the radio 25 years ago when I drove to the city animal shelter to adopt one of our dogs. Brings back sweet memories of her.❤

I am a note-to-color synesthete who had dedicated my life to exploring the nature of perception of our hearing, developing what I call my "Theory of Pitch Psychology." I am quite stunned by this first listen to a composer who I had never heard of but ran across in my research about the singing voice in F#. I'd like to share a choral piece which I think it's the most intense realization of Samuel Barber's, Agnus Dei (Adagio for Strings). God bless you, John Rutter. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIG7i5qKbt6BmKM

It's funny how you seem to remember the first time you hear a piece of music, and that moment stays with you. The first time I heard this It was a beautiful Sunday morning, and I was at the kitchen table with my coffee and doing the Sunday crossword puzzle. This piece came on the radio, and I had to stop and listen to the whole piece with no interruptions, except for the rays of sunshine coming through the window. I still have that same feeling of peace when I hear it today. Thank you for a wonderful performance.

This piece was dedicated to the victims of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan.... which makes it all the more poignant.
