is this durable enough to make a “leather” bound book? i want to make a book but leather and faux leather is so damn expensive 😭😭
@NeutralDIY20 күн бұрын
Yes! It is very durable. I have made several faux leather bound books and they hold up very well. The cover I made for my recipe journal in the video below has held up very well for over a year. Hope that helps. Happy crafting!! How To Make a Faux Leather Book Cover for Recipe Journal | Part 1 kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmSYi3ZvgtyYotE

It works great but does take a bit to dry.

Glycerine will slow down the drying time, i e. extend the working time when used as an additive in water based media.

Your stamped laminated papers turned out beautiful. Thanks for sharing. As for the ranger archival inks, I agree they bleed terribly. I invested a lot of money in them because I wanted permanent inks that would match my distress inks and oxides. Rangers website says they are permanent crisp and non bleeding. I contacted them to inform them of my disappointment in their inks because they bleed so badly. I was contacted back from ranger and they doubled down saying they don't bleed. Lol. Anyways At least I know I am not the only one who feels they bleed.

Please tell me why do you use glycerine?
@NeutralDIY2 ай бұрын
Hi, I use glycerine because it makes the paper softer and more pliable. In my opinion it makes it feel more like leather. Thanks so much for watching!!

Thank you for the video. I will have to try this. What size spray bottle did you use, and what is the ratio of glycerin to water? Thank you.
@NeutralDIY3 ай бұрын
You are so welcome!! I use a 8 oz bottle however I only fill mine half way and use 2 tsp of glycerine or whatever 4 squeezes of the bottle equals lol. I believe 2 tsps would be enough for the whole bottle as well but you can add more if you like. I do have a video all about glycerine and how to use it in the craft room here How to use Glycerine for Paper Crafting kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXSsan-wfb2qaM0 Thank you so much for watching!! 💕

Can you tell me what else can be done with the Folk Art Chalk Wax? I bought the clear one and now I don’t know what to use it for.
@NeutralDIY3 ай бұрын
Hi, as far as I can tell the clear one is used as a sealer over other paints. Once dry it can be buffed to a sheen. I haven’t tried the clear one yet. I’ve only used the antique wax brown color. I’ve used it on paper for faux leather and wood projects. I hope this helped Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks so much for watching!! 💕

I didn't catch how long you microwave it for & why.
@NeutralDIY3 ай бұрын
Hi, I microwaved it for 15 sec intervals until it is as thick as you want it. The cornstarch when mixed with water and heated, is the thickening agent. Thank you so much for watching! 💕

I’m late to the party here, and I have questions. Could one use body or face lotion in place of the hair conditioner? What about treating the back side of the bag too?
@NeutralDIY3 ай бұрын
Hi, thanks so much for watching!! I believe you can use body or hand lotion. I’m not too sure about face cream. Deidre from Our Upcycled Life has a video on making faux leather with hand cream. I usually treat both sides of the bag because I am putting the lotion or conditioner on while I a wrinkling it up. However, I only paint one side unless I am using it for something where both sides would show.

Can i make this to garment and wear ?
@NeutralDIY4 ай бұрын
Hi, I don’t think making a garment with a paper bag would work because it is still not strong enough and not washable. I’m not sure what type of garment you are thinking of but you wouldn’t be able to wear it very long since it would probably fall apart if you washed it. There is something called stone paper that is waterproof and very strong that may work. I hope that helps. Thanks so much for watching! 💕

If you mean the ingredients in the thumbnail? They are what I used to make the matte medium. It is a DIY I made because I couldn’t find a matte medium that was truly matte.
@artofellachristina5 ай бұрын
Hi! I’d like to ask how you use the medium. So, you use it as glue or general adhesive? I’m asking to understand how I can tweak your formula to my use case
@NeutralDIY5 ай бұрын
Hi! So sorry for the late reply. You can use it as an adhesive and also on your collages or any surface as a sealer or varnish to give a matte finish. Thanks so much for watching! 💕

Ahhhh, we all go through that, no inspiration, no motivation and who cares attitude. That's because a creative mind sometimes needs that time to recharge and care about stuff all over again. And you will! You do beautiful work, and have ideas that I think sometimes how'd she come up with that ! My passion, the faux leather from paper and traveler's notebooks and inserts . I always will push for that! Best of the day! Kathy

@NeutralDIY5 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! I don’t use much glitter but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. It should work just fine for glitter. Just like any glue you may need several coats if you don’t want to feel the glitter. Thank you so much for watching!! 💕

I made faux leather this last Thursday! I thought about my dad, and went into his shoe shine box. Dragged out his brown shoe polish. A little messy, but i love the way it turned out! I have to go back and use some glue or top coat! I also used blue on another big paper bag! I still want to do a red, and pink, etc.! They look good! Thanks for your inspiration! Hi there! Nice Haul I bought some of those wooden cubes a month ago and still don't know what to do with them😅 I could use some of those drawers but have never seen them before . I make my own inks too but didn't have luck with the spray bottle. Didn't like the way it sprays out and they clock fast. I have most definitely look out for those envelopes. Been meaning to get the canvas foe a while now. TFS
