Good idea--my opponents and I haven't tried this... noticed that if UK had a bigger fleet in sea zone 109 (destroyer lived or they moved one there... or even brought up the cruiser) and you feared them scrambling you can always bring your planes from the carrier in to assist and still land them in sea zone 91.

There is a problem with your strategy for the German Summer 1914 turn concerning France. Belgium was the preferred and only realistic chance Germany had of advancing to Paris in early 1914. Lorraine was too heavily defended. You mention a penalty Germany would pay for extending their trench line if the mass for an assault into Belgium. Tranches should not even be in play before 1915. I think the concept of allowing four pieces on the western front in any space to represent trenches is flawed. I think it would be better to use trench markers instead. I would love to discuss this further if you want. I think the historical evidence is on my side here.

I play a lot online, and doing this strategy with a bid for at least 12 is absolutely unbeatable. I dont think ive lost Calcutta, or even Egypt in 5 games or so.

What's the reasoning behind leaving a lone infantry in alexandria? I'm just thinking Italy is going in that direction either way, but doesn't have enough there to blitz onto Egypt anyway, and that infantry would have better odds of doing game defensively in Egypt then alexandria. Wouldn't it be better to move him back as well?

I don't play the game anymore for exactly this reason. The very idea that Japan would have attacked north of Manchuria in 1942 is utterly ridiculous. That they then could have moved west, through Siberia, and attacked Moscow from the other side of the Ural Mountains is simply fantasy.

Regardless of what happens in the Med, Italy can be extremely helpful as a ‘can opener’ on the Russian front. An early purchase of a few mobile units plus a little aircraft can help to crush Russia. Since Italy then Germany in essence have a ‘double impulse’ every round against Russia, Italy can make small attacks against Russian blockers. They get the money, then Germany can either reinforce the territory, blitz through it, or both. It’s a devastating way to not only drive deep into Russia but also keep Italy economically viable even if they’ve been kicked out of Africa.

Glad to see they're doing more boxed games. Hope they eventually do the same for Global War. Nothings more frustrating than having a game where you have to hunt everything down piecemeal, everything's always out of stock, and none of the minis come in oob colors. I'll probably skip this one, but I'll definitely pick up DDay or Stalingrad if either become available. Amerika is still their best publishing to date in terms of box and mini quality (plastic will always beat 3d print), but this looks pretty dang close to that quality. Still disappointed they dropped their battlemini line.

Thanks for your thoughts. With drones, I've taken to using those counters as 'irregular' units. I have assumed that drones supporting conventional ships, aircraft formations and mechanised units have integral drones, as well as computer support, factored into their combat values. Drone counters of the nature of the Litko style chits are those fielded in the Red Sea, Lebanon etc.

You don't need to declare war with ANZAC unless you're trying to prevent them from moving to the Philippines (and only the Philippines). The reason for this is because Japan would have to declare war at the beginning of their combat move anyways if they were going to invade india or even the money islands, making the sea zone hostile before they can load the troops.

Helpful video thank you, I was looking for an answer, if Germany puts an airbase turn 1 into Holland, protecting their damaged battleship, then during turn 2, the 3 fighters fly off to attack sea 109, the battleship now has no fighters in Holland to scramble, so now can England scramble to sea 110 and do battle with the battleship ? I'd need a combat move for the battleship to leave the English scrambling area, or leave my 3 fighters protecting the battleship until it non combats maybe to sea 112. I'm trying to influence the Toronto raid by building the airbase and 2 German transports, making 3 transports plus possibly 10 more next turn, but I might need to engage the RAF before the actual sea lion is attempted.

Thanks for the lesson, I just played my first global this week and was somewhat overwhelmed by the variables. My opponent was nice enough to point out bonuses I was not focusing on. I took allies because I figured Axis needed to have a plan while I was more likely to survive by reacting, we played through turn 6 and nobody actually lost, but I think my Russia was on borrowed time. G4 and I did my best orderly retreat, my England I was too timid, skipping the full Toronto raid, I sunk 2 small Italian boats and my boats all left the Mediterranean (foolishly unaware of the bonus $), they protected the Indian ocean off and on as the Japanese leviathan fleet came and went. Italy was well over $40 turns 5&6, I think my Russia was toast by turn 9 or 10 as my USA built equally in both oceans. My last 2 turns (5&6) saw England and USA both attacking and taking Territories in France but I could see it was temporary and instead I needed to retake Gibraltar and Morocco to push Italy back to the $20 something income. My opponent was in statistical analysis (retired) and could well calculate probabilities without hesitation. I'm going to set it up and try a solo, I need a better allied plan, I didn't temp him to sealion, I seen a video on that, building mostly ground in England and saving $6 incase the 10 German transports appeared.

I like to try Germany vs. France without the intention of taking it, to allow Italy capturing France. Germany has nearly enough starting units to take UK or Leningrad even if UK or Leningrad puts more than 12-20 infantry on. Germany needs close to 16 transports for its starting units plus some navy defense. Germany should have enough starting ships and planes to take the waters; dont use any German planes in France. If Germany holds money round one, Germany will have enough money to build a large navy all at once. Germany has to keep their planes positioned to attack either Leningrad, UK, or perhaps participate in the sea. Dont be afraid to loose some planes in the land battle, its more important to actually land. First move, let Italy take France. Itll give Italy more money for the capture + steady income. That extra money that can be used to expand. It will make the difference. I think of Germany as capital hunter that is willing to destroy itself because Italy is defending the home by expanding and securing the south resources. In theory, Germany will have lost most of its starting pieces and first purchase trying to land on UK or Leningrad. After Germany's first major attack, it will seem that only Italy is on the board. Germany will have destroyed a lot of its starting units in the amphibious and Italy will keep everything secure until Germany can build using captured money. Germany into France battle round one: (I think the math is right for this example but in general this is how how I calculate) 8 units @ 1/6 = 1.33 expected hit 3 units @ 3/6 = 1.5 expected hit 2.8 expected hit total, I generally round down because I dont want to build luck here into the strategy France starts with 7 units @ 2/6 1 tank @ 3/6 1 fighter @ 4/6 Expected hit is 3.496 or I tend to round up to 4; I tend to build luck here into the strategy. >> Continued fighting Germany into France and the 3 tanks still do 1.5 expected hit. After loosing four units, there are Four @ 1/6 = .66 2.1 total. Round to 2 France would probably loose a AAA gun and have due to another loss, there are now Six @ 2/6 = 2 tank = .5 Fighter = .66 3.1 and it would be extremely lucky to get 4. >> Run this again. But really the idea is for Germany to weaken France enough that Italy can take it. ___ Let the German player focus clearing the waters and repositioning everything to purchase 12-16 transports and some defensive navy to land everything they start with into either UK or Leningrad.

The aircraft carrier being there off Egypt makes literal magic possible for UK in the med for A&A global. As long as the aircraft carrier survives without a hit, the fighter from london has a landing space there. I'd honestly rather house rule it into being a battleship instead, still a two hit monster but no magically appearing fighter squadrons. You can fly over AA in A&A global without having to go through an AA shot, as per the official rules. It's a very common house rule to have flyover AA still shoot even if you aren't battling in the flyover territory. It does kinda balance this issue out, but it's not an official rule.
