I was amazed how clever it was twisted - stating the obvious, but making it heroic in the car that will only reach 100 km/hr in 30 minutes time if there’s no front wind! 🤣🤣 That said - I LOVE THIS CAR aka “Il FRIGO” around here ❤️

No, my friend. The starting point was the town called Foligno (Umbria) and then we drove to Montefalco - where they grow the famous Sagrantino grape and make the eponymous wine 🍷

@@MotoringBug - Back in the 80s I had a friend who let me drive the aforementioned Alfa when we were together. When I was behind the wheel, he loved it when we raced other sporty cars that pulled up at the light. "Go, go, go, he'd be crying out as I went through the gears. The car roared. He eventually sold it and bought a clunky old long XKE, as he felt it would get him more action with the ladies. A few years later, I met a young fellow who had recently bought an Alfetta. He let me take him for a drive on the roads I knew in the foothills of the Ozarks for several hours. Great car. 100 mph on two lane blacktop. I owned a beater '70 Giulia back then. When it had an oil leak which froze the 1750 engine, I put it on a low platform in my dining room and disassembled it. Such a beautiful little hunk of aluminum with iron piston sleeves. Everything about that engine was lovely. When I thought I had fixed it, I put it back in the car, but it wouldn't start. I was in way over my head. Someone took it off my hands.
@MotoringBugАй бұрын
Great story! Thanks for sharing! I’m pretty sure that Alfa was a much better racer than E-Type and possibly better pick up car too 😄 but that depends what kind of ladies he was after, of course 😉

Wow! We could’ve had this instead of 124 as Lada? I am not sure whether it could compete with the utility of 124, but looks like a much more enjoyable driving experience 😊

Yes. Considering that 127 was launched in 1971 and in 1972 it’s got Car of the Year award - exactly the time when our first Lada’s rolled off the conveyor.

Glad to see our shitboxes are still revered to this day
@MotoringBug5 ай бұрын
They might have been “shitboxes” (though I prefer calling them econoboxes) back in a day, but the fact is that despite many of them were designed clever and simple mostly out of sheer necessity, they still delivered that “functional fun” from the ownership of an actual transportation! That’s what our two part film on this true Italian icon is all about. I understand totally that in today’s world fear of massive vehicles surrounding you sitting in this tin box may take a toll on a joy, but then there are so many people riding bicycles and even electric scooters 🛴 in cities - totally unprotected from cars or objects. I guess we can agree that Cinquecento is still great in town… AND then there’s this endearing noise from parallel twin air cooled beast!!! 😅❤️🤩

There are many companies that claim that they made the first suv. Jeep claims its the Cherokee, ford claims the explorer, Suzuki claims the vitara and lada claims the niva. Yes all these were introduced before the rav4, but the rav4 was the first to be good to drive on the road as it has compact size, its lightweight and independent suspension.
@MotoringBug8 ай бұрын
You have a point! But Niva was the first lightweight real off-roader carrying passengers in a relative comfort 🙂 Relative bc of a 60s tech it was based on. RAV4 went the other way - less off-road capabilities, but better road manners. I’m not mentioning comfort because it’s obvious with 20 years younger design/technology. So, yeah - the 1st SUV in our current understanding of it. But it’s FWD version is not the first crossover. That was Matra Rancho as I explained in my other film. Thank you for the comment and please stay tuned! More content is the works!
