How important is that pipe overlap part? I recently bought some new coal and it’s super stinky. I never smelled my old coal like this new stuff. And it’s been clogging up my chimney spark arrestor. I’ll have to go up and knock my chimney cap to get it to clear out. Also it’s big chunks like soft ball size or biggest. I have slack left over from last stuff so I been putting big pieces in first and then I’ll put slack in and n top to tame it down or it’ll rage on. Never worried about my pipe overlap until now hearing ur video and having my new stinky coal

Can you explain more about the pipes going a certain direction? I didnt fully understand.
@keystonecountryboy18 күн бұрын
With burning coal you have fumes and no creosote like you get from burning wood. The joints of pipe are not air tight so...you want the joints to overlap how I have them...when you burn wood, and creosote forms, it will turn into like a tar when heated it will run down the inside if the pipe hence having the joints overlap kinda like a drainspout.
@keystonecountryboy18 күн бұрын
So the creosote don't run down the outside of the pipe. I have mine set up so that all the gas and smoke goes up the flue inside of the next section, so basically a reverse overlap. I get no smoke or fumes from leaky pipe joints. Plus I only run a barometric damper, no manual pipe damper. I monitor the draft with the manometer on the wall.i tool that chimney pipe out recently and ran stainless. It was a little difficult making the boot for the oval adapter for the stove but I managed

So I rebuilt the adapter with 8 inch black pipe and I didn't like it the adapter they used was 7 to 6 so I went with that. The oval opening is 9 1/4 × 4" outside dimensions for overlapping for coal. I would have just used the whole 2 foot piece I bought but I just don't have the headroom in the stove room so I could put the T and the barometric damper

If only the air intake was different shaped, you could use an anemometer to see the air volume pulled in and adjust it so its the same regardless of the type of coal. Considering the price differences, it would almost be a good idea to make a briquette business that buys up coal dust and the cheapest sized coal and turns it into briquettes or even much larger briquettes that have the holes drilled through them for air. Something akin to Yeontan in Korea.

You almost need a automatic auger for the buckwheat coal
@ryelor123Ай бұрын
I looked up the burning of small coal and its better so long as you have a stoker and burn it in smaller quantities at a time. He's using the same quantity at once which is stopping the airflow. However, without an automatic stoker/auger, smaller volumes of small coal will burn up quicker.

Very nice. Do you know how far the 1st lower section goes down into the insulation and very bottom section of ally tube? There must be some capacitive effects going on in that lower section from the overlap. I'm going to make one from a 5/8 Sirio. I just made the ring from one piece of copper pipe Initially I'll strap it to the elements but might try to solder / braise it later. The ring has around a 1ft diameter. I just resiled I made it the wrong way around so I'll just clamp and later solder the ring tuning wire. I'm going to use some fairly heavy gauge solid core. The insulator will be of teflon as is for the Maco v5000 (Watts version).
