Element capacity is 1500 lbs. Pilot somehow got 3500 lbs., which is 230% more, despite only 12% more length and 50% more power. I suspect the auto transmission, which is "allergic to tap water" in strength, versus the manual that is like 5x stronger.

I'm getting ready to buy a 2008 Honda Element with 77.0 k miles What has been the biggest problem with this 2008 element? Or could you tell me, what to watch out for?
@projectkod2 ай бұрын
Hi Marianne - hopefully, I didn't answer your question too late. For 2008, it is typical of any car that is 15 years or older. Check all the suspension component and make sure that the upper and lowered balljoint are good, wheel bearing. engine mounts, struts/shocks. Also, check for the Catalytic converter and see if it's an original. Since they seem to be targets for thieves to resale those. If the car is from a state that snows. check the undercarriage for rust, especially in the rear subframe area. Other than that, run a carfax report and make sure that the seller didn't roll the speedometer miles back to 77k. that seemed to be super low for a 2008. Good luck with the purchase.

How tall is your lift? I’m trying to see if 245/70R/17 tires and 17/9 rims with -12 offset will fit on a 3” lift
@projectkod2 ай бұрын
my lift is 2.0 front and 1.5 rear. I do think you'll need to trim some plastic and metal from your wheel-well. The lift will give you more height but won't help with spacing on the wheel-well area.

It is a great looking vehicle, but Toyota doesn’t use a V8 anymore which is a big mistake. They could have gone with a hybrid system and supercharge the V8 for reliability and fuel economy which with a Land Cruiser was never their strong suit. Getting you to were you need to go and not brake down was what they excelled at. I still have a 1996 Land Cruiser that is Amazing

Among the reasons given why the Element was dropped by Honda I’ve heard it was pulling the CAFE ratings down. If the engineers at Honda could have gotten more MPG out of it, they’d still be making it so I doubt there’s much the end user can do. My first Element was a 2005 5 spd manual 2wd and at 60 mph the engine would turn 3,000 rpm in high. Now I have a 2011 with the 5 spd auto (2wd also) and at 60 mph the tach reads under 2K. But the mileage is pretty much the same so I don’t think it’s gearing, I think it’s coefficient of drag. Won’t get better with light bars roof racks or trailers. I’m thinking it is what it is .
@projectkod3 ай бұрын
100% agree with your comment. It was great topic amongst owner when we go to the Element Meets, lol. It's just my wishful thinking that a 2.4L 4 cylinder box-design vehicle will outperform a streamlined aerodynamic design sedan/van, hell I just picked up a 2.5L Mazda 5 5-speed AT - mini/micro van and that thing gets 27 hwy and 22 street, so far im getting 23.5 combo. lol not great but im okay with that since it seats 6 and has sliding door.
