This seems structured well-enough and competent in a technical way..there is a kind of standard American sound to this piece, despite the narrative frame that describes the composer finding his own voice. There's hardly a real theme to be found, much of the music especially the longer sustained crescendos revolve around ostinato figures, and burbling winds, dotted brass figures...the composer's intentions seem to align with my impression (I read the notes only after listening to the piece). Of course his style incorporates a minimalistic element so that accounts some of the static feeling. I'm struck by the fact that no matter what his piece might be called, you mostly get a kind of quiet pastel mood...for an inner city rhapsody it feels often like a small town pastorale. Turns out this piece despite its title has nothing really to do with the inner city...It turns out to be an existential journey...It isn't explained what the element of nostalgia has to do with finding your own voice...or belonging. Why is he nostalgic about the time he didn't belong? I'm not sure this concept really works or communicates in such a specific way. It's better just to take the music as it is. ...Just an observation that whatever the subject of his musical meditations they are generally neutered accounts without the kind of tension needed to make them feel like an authentic experience. The ending doesn't really seem to be effective at projecting the found voice...given the entire piece is in the composer's recognizable voice...We just have to accept that symbolically he's found his voice.

I enjoyed the denser and more obscure harmonies..you took it to some interesting places early on (I found the 1st 4 minutes the most interesting harmonically and texturally...however by the 2nd half the harmony is mostly consonant (recognizably romantic era)...so it doesn't maintain the delicate and interesting dance between modern and romantic elements. The modern virtually element disappears...Thus for me the piece loses some of its richness, integrity and interest. I have found at times in your work the supposed concept does not come across faithfully in the work itself. It tends to impute something on the work that isn't actually there. Congratulations on the performance.

Do we know if this ever got soundscaped into a song or turned into one? The chords at the end are reminiscent of “Change is Everything”

THank you so much for sharing this. My father had a box set of Stravinsky works conducted by Stravinsky, but had got rid of it by the time he died in March last year. I would have loved to listen to it.

I feel sorry for Squidward when I saw this episode, SpongeBob should have let a licensed doctor take care of Patrick instead of doing it from home like Patrick did to SpongeBob from Suds.

Can I just ask, how did you transcribe this into Sibelius for playback? I'm trying to write a piece with phasing at the moment in Dorico and am wondering if I can get the playback to do something similar.

This is one hell of a recording you've savaged there! Most flabberasting is what they did with the Sacrifitial Dance. I cannot possibly call it "dirty" - quite on the contrary. It is extremely accurate with an iron rhythm, alive and breathing with unforgiving pulsation throughout. I'd like to point out the year of this recording - 1967. The following year started the students uprisings against the ruling totalitarian regime. This kind of unhappy background I know from my home country Bulgaria, which was also ruled by an authoritarian communist government.

I love the rough timbre and the general sloppiness of this recording more than any modern recording, it's way more punk. I do think however that they actually go kinda soft on some of the heaviest parts, like for instance, they don't drop the beat at 29:23 as hard as I wish they would, that moment is supposed to be a jumpscare
