I just love how you describe what your doing ,and those hints helps me to try them. You make it easy for us just starting . I like how you tell us about the colors your using. Wow! I've been at watercolor for a few years now, still very much a beginner (self-taught and you-tube-taught), but I haven't seen anyone do what you did - spray out your mistakes! Or rather, the colors you didn't like. But I wish I had known this about 100 tossed paintings ago! Love these pieces, too, of course. :)

Transparent colors work well for this. I use the back of paintings I'm not thrilled with to keep practicing. I'm self taught about 5 years. I literally have gone to the kitchen sink and turned my spray nozzle on to attack a painting. LOL. Then if I want, I'll use watercolor ground on top of what remains, which will add texture in there... and figure out what to do... So glad to meet you!!! Thank you for your time and feedback. I've been on a break and painting a way. So I'm thinking through what tips for beginners, or how to save money on supplies, etc. Anythign that comes to mind... let me know. Blessings!

What is the bottle with the long tip? The link to the masking fluid shows a regular bottle but not something with that long tip. Thank you

@@cristinakrause4506 Logically I'd say you are right. However this was when I was starting out and would not have thought of that. I've used gouache many times, I can't think of one time it was repeled. Probably because it's more like acrylic paint. Also check out PH Martin white. A small jar that is what I use now when I need white gouache. It's the best.

Great painting! I'm gearing up for Christmas cards and will give this one another go! I tried it about 6? months ago and didn't quite get the same effect as you- your background is more moody/atmospheric and the texture you captured on the bird is superior, for sure. @@CindyWatercolorArt Hi Cindy, The paints I probably used were Daniel Smith & Winsor Newton. As for the paper, since I'm learning I may have used a cheaper paper Artist's Loft, acid free, cold press, 140 lb. 300gsm. I have been stocking up on Arches wc paper and other brands of pure cotton paper, but because it's kind of pricey I hate to waste it by using it to learn and practice on. ❤so beautiful and realistic! I want to ask you something, do you sketch or you use grids or a lamp to transfer you images? I’m having a hard time going back into the sketch and drawing, I used to do it while I was growing up till I became a mom. Now I’m back into watercolors but having a hard time to draw. I have macular degeneration and I know my eyes eventually will go dark, meanwhile I try everyday, Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us ❤

This was a complicated sketch. I recommend a larger sheet of paper for you, and then I do have a Kodak Luma smart projector and I can use it with my smart phone. amzn.to/3HqBPq6 I tape my paper on the wall, let it project on there and I sketch it. It was affordable, and easy to use. When it's a simple painting, I just sketch the basics out. With the situation you are in, focus on enjoying what you can do today. Use a projector, whatever you want. Also, see if you like looser styles, which avoids the need for exact sketching. In the meantime, I'm going to be praying for a miracle for you and that God touch your eyes and heal them. Is there anything that can be done? Great question Elvia. Praying for you today. Cindy

Really enjoy watching your tutorials but the banner across the bottom obscures the lower part of the painting so what you do on the bottom portion of the painting is lost to the viewer.
