How do we know the right pronunciation of gothic runes ? I am interested in pronouncing Ulfilas bible traduction as cotrectly as possible.
@scottt.shellcontinentalger24643 сағат бұрын
@@ezzovonachalm9815 it would take a lot of looking at the names in the manuscript where the rune names appear and then reconstructing the names into proper Wulfilian Gothic.

As a German, German isn't even called German in German so i don't care if the language is called Germanic or something else. Scandinavian would be misleading though because its suggests a language that was only spoken in Scandinavia.

This makes so much more sense to me as to the weird feeling I had watching Maria perform this live in Milwaukee this year! Thank you for the breakdown!

Lmao I have no clue what that's about! I'm glad you liked the video! Got another one coming out soon on religious Gothic vocabulary.
Thank you so much Scott for this new video! I was wondering where you had gone. Your insights into these runestones and the heathen faith are greatly needed and appreciated. Keep up the most excellent work!

Amazing to see this. I grew up 15 minutes from the Björketorp stone, and visited it many times in the past. My family has roots in the area, and I had huge respect for the place ...almost felt a sense of dread and doom going there. I did touch the stones, but only with outmost respect and curiosity. I always wondered what the inscription truly meant, and now it's a bit clearer to me. Thank you!

Very interesting video, Scott! A question that occurs to me is this: Was the inscription itself considered the magical operation, or was it simply a warning sign - in plain speech - placed after a magical operation of warding (whose form we cannot discern) had already taken place? By way of analogy, one might find a sign declaring "Danger: electric fence! Touch this at your peril!" The sign is the warning; the electricity flowing through the fence is the actual danger. It would be interesting to know what happened to the gravel workers who disturbed the site.

Given all the alliteration and the mythic references to, e.g., bright-runes (from the sky?), raginarunoz ('god-runes'), etc., I believe the whole inscription is a magical act. But, yes, at the end there, I think there was a sign that was tacked on which equates to something like "danger" or "keep out" (saz þat barutz...'whoever breaks this'). As mentioned in the video, this exact phrase is found on many runestones.

Looks like a place I want to visit when I am going to explore Denmark. I can imagine standing in front of such an impressive rune stone touches something within.
