Thank you for this video, we have been to half of these and agree with you on your assessments. We have never been to Columbine as we are concerned about big crowds whitch typically brings noise and generators. We are going on an exploratory trip to Hopewell to check it out in a couple of weeks. Over the years many of our historical camping areas have burned and so must find other locations. So we are headed north! Always love your videos and tree hugs. HA!

It's actually in the Apache NF but this part is administered by the Gila. The bull elk probably hadn't started to grow their new antlers at that time of year.

Beautiful hike. We are enjoying Quebec right now but look forward to returning to the Southwest in the fall. I carry a small sunscreen stick of sunscreen for my hands that fits right in my pocket. Gloves work too.

We camped here two weeks ago while on a southwest NM trip. We were towing a 16' Lance camper trailer with a Kia Telluride. The one lane road up to the campground has a rough section with steep, rocky and 2 switchbacks. Put the Kia in 4WD and did fine. 12 campsites. Finding a somewhat level site was not easy but we did and were able to level the rig. CG not even 1/2 full (weekday). Nice canyon hike past the group site. When we left my wife walked down the road with a Walkie-talkie (no cell service) to make sure no one was coming up.....NO backing up or passing there with a camper.

Thanks so much for posting this video! I’m planning to get there as early as I can on a Tuesday. I have a 29 foot trailer and it looks like there’s plenty of bigger trailers at the site which is reassuring although I am a bit nervous about the drive up. Could you tell me if they only accept cash payment?
@RobinT-treehugger
@RobinT-treehugger 7 күн бұрын
I am not sure about payment. Many campgrounds have gone to the scan & pay, but the wifi up there is non-existent.....so maybe cash only? The drive up can be tricky as there is a section that is narrow with some blind curves. Take it slow... and have a great time!

Hello, any of these campgrounds can ATVs be taken? Thank you for sharing.
@jkday1893
@jkday1893 21 күн бұрын
HI there, chances are, no, we usually do dispersed camping in the forest if we take our atv's. Generally, any campground that sees heavy use and has a camp host, does not allow atv's. Unfortunately this is a result of discourteous atv users. It's always the few who ruin it for others. We have a place in the mountains and down the road there is dispersed camping... on a weekend a large group were camping, atv's and dirt bikes and the kids ran from 8 AM to dark all day at high speeds. A neighbor went to ask them to ease up and he was pushed to the ground, breaking a hip. Police and ambulance were called. As long-time atvers we believe in courtesy, picking up litter (easy to haul on an atv), and "staying the trail" so that we can all continue to enjoy. Happy camping and atving!
@RobinT-treehugger
@RobinT-treehugger 20 күн бұрын
No, I don't think any of the National Forest campgrounds allow ATVs, and none of the state parks. Your best bet is BLM or boondocking locations. Sorry!
