This feels like those early NuWho songs with the 'ooh' vocals. They kinda stopped that with Smith (?) Really love this.

Yeah, I dunno why they stopped. I feel like it was quite the vibe and very unique to the show. I wish they'd bring it back some more

There’s this king, and he asks for a shepherd boy. “How many second in eternity?” Adn the shepherd boy says, “There’s a scribe , Every year he climbs to the to the top of a mountain of pure diamond, It’s takes a day to climb, and day to go around, When he reaches the summit he sharpens his quill, to record the deed of his people, And to teach the children the stories of old, And when the entire mountain has been worn away, the first second of eternity will have passed” “You may think what a man, But I say, what a species”

This would have been a perfect addition to Hell Bent, due to the episode's Western elements and of course that it's a continuation of the story from Heaven Sent.

This is actually one of my favorite pieces out of Murray Gold during his time on Doctor Who. And my problems with it are the ones I have with all his pieces. He is a lovely composer. However some of his pieces are so full of bombast, it's hard to reach through it and get to the theme of the piece. (Does that even make sense?) But for most of The Shepard's Boy, he nails it. Even when he gets bombastic with it in the end for the sake of what's happening in the show during the climax of 12's time in purgatory. There, the bombast of what the show and the plot demands of him at that moment is appropriate. And I get it. I do. I love it even. But Gold really shines for me in his quieter moments. The ones where he's getting to use his themes to become intimate with a character or set a mood. And that's where the Shepard's Boy shines. And there's the two bits in your piece here really stand out for me. Your throughline with the ongoing melody Is spot on. It doesn't feel like you wanted to belt or pound it into the head of the listener. Even when the piece gets into the bombastic bits in the end, it feels more like you're the calm note in the middle of everything happening around you. And that's much appreciated. The other bit, I have to really laud the watery-80's-punk/alternative-soundng guitar that came in behind you. Which to me was musically like Peter Capaldi and his Doctor slipping quietly into the room. That guitar felt emblematic of him to me. Haunting and haunted. There was always that somewhat scary or strange minor key note to the feel of him. That they leaned a bit into Peter's old punk band-ness and let his Doctor adopt a guitar in the show was a nice touch, I thought. So here... that near-rockabilly-punk haunted strangeness seizes hold as soon as it comes in quietly behind you. You can imagine 12 exploring, ambling, and eventually staggering through the hallways in the confession dial as he did in the episode. But here I can imagine him in those clockwork stone hallways with his guitar slung over his shoulder like a talisman. Honestly... I'd love to hear an alternate cut of just your vocals and that guitar in duet. I think that would sound fine. Thanks for this. ^_^

Ohhh this hits harder on a second listen. Yeah. Gimme. Gimme a cut of this with just you along with the accoustic and the electric guitars. This about to put a tear in my eye.

While hearing this for the first time I realised that the Doctor is referring to himself when he says that it's "one hell of a bird". He's got a solution, even if it will take a long time to bear fruit, and by god it's a good one.

There’s this emperor, and he asks a shepherd’s boy, “How many seconds in eternity?” And the shepherds boy says “There’s this mountain of pure diamond, and it takes one hour to climb it and one hour to go around it. Every hundred years, a little bird comes and sharpens it’s beak on the diamond mountain. And when the entire mountain is chiselled away, the first second of eternity will have passed!” You might think that’s one helluva long time, Personally, I think that’s one helluva bird.

The fact that this cover has less than 7000 views is a straightforward insult. Most beautiful piece, even without knowing the background plot from the series, this cover hits so hard. The tones are just perfect, i can hear lightly distorted soft bells in the end, it's just beatiful, the contrast, the progression, everything. It's totally different from the original, like a whole new story is being unraveled... Bravo!

“Oh, there it is...silly old universe. The more I save it, the more it needs saving...it’s a treadmill!” *tardis noises* “Yes, yes I know they’ll get it all wrong without me.” *more tardis noises* “I suppose...one more lifetime...wouldn’t kill anyone.” *hand starts to glow* “Well, except me...” “You wait a moment, Doctor! Let’s get it right! Basic stuff first: *Never be cruel, never be cowardly!”* _”and never ever eat pears!_ remember...hate is always foolish and love is always wise...” “Always try to be nice but never fail to be kind _oh_ and...you mustn’t tell anyone your name. No one would understand it anyway.” “Except-“ *le gasp* “Except...children. Children can hear it...sometimes, if their hearts are in the right place...and the stars are, too....children can hear your name.” “But nobody else...no one else...ever.” “Laugh hard. Run fast. _Be kind.”_ “Doctor...I let you go...” *tardis12.exe uninstalled. Installing tardis13.mp4*

I really can’t explain the feelings towards this beautiful cover. The Shepherd’s Boy alone is amazing and beautiful, but you captured how I feel towards the cover. This cover really brought me the light and positivity I lost for years. So I want to say thank you for making this, it is truly amazing. Beautiful, beautiful cover. Quick question. How many seconds in eternity?

In Lower Pomerania is the Diamond Mountain, which is two miles and a half high, two miles and a half wide, and two miles and a half in depth; every hundred years a little bird comes and sharpens its beak on it, and when the whole mountain is worn away by this, then the first second of eternity will be over.
