Imagine being unable to decide between two alternatives? I can't imagine a day where I didn't face many decisions like that. I should learn more about him. The idea of indifference is big in economic theory, and utilitarians like Jeremy Bentham and J.S. Mill were surely aware of Montaigne. Conceptions of value as being derived from land, from labor, or from capital were superceded by a question of whether a person would be willing to exchange this for that. How much a sandwich is worth is just what you're willing to pay for it, or whether you'd hang onto your money if the price was any higher. Of course it depends totally on how hungry you are and what other options you've got, but many prefer to ignore such complications.

I'm with you on languages, Dan. My parents said that I was early at picking up English vocabulary and grammar, and I've done well with programming languages but haven't gotten very far with other spoken languages. And I can imagine that acquiring a language well enough to truly appreciate poetry in it--or humor--would be another big step. I feel like I miss so much because of that.

@glorirem Trust God. He has a plan. I'm a Catholic Christian, but would there be various denominations if God wanted there not to be? Maybe. I cannot get my head around it either. If God expected us to understand completely before saving us, none of us would be saved. We're saved, rather, by God's grace. Whichever church you decide to attend, if you hear something against another denomination, I'd not think about it too much. Unless you're called to apologetics. I'm called, instead, to bible study and Faith and I'm working on cultivating my Hopefulness. God is leading you to Him. Trust, cooperate and be obedient. That's enough.

It's a real problem. They make videos that look really trustworthy, but they're not. Even the most trustworthy looking video's are in many cases not trustworthy at all, but instead propaganda of video makers with secret agenda's. Usually they put fear in people's hearts. Usually they say: By all means, you should do this, and you should not do that, or else who knows what will happen to you! Holy scriptures are not like that, I mean, it's exactly what they say in holy scriptures, but in another way. It's just another way, these people want to lead you astray, so... They can fool a lot of people, and they know they can, because a lot of people are not sufficiently versed in the knowledge of the holy scriptures, and they take advantage of that. It's a real problem. They put fear in the hearts of people, and on the flip side they say: Well, you've got a problem, so do you want to solve the problem? Of course we want to solve the problems, why wouldn't we want to solve them? Then they say: OK, if you want to solve your problems, do as we say! Well I say no, I won't. I say we are children of God, we do fear God, but read the scriptures instead, at least read them thoroughly before trying to discern malefic messages on the internet, because when we read the holy scriptures, we do fear God, but at least we know we're on the right path!
