Paul and Chad's Willys deserves to win. It is well built and a good choice for overlanding. In fact, they all deserve participation awards. Robby's bread van will be great for camping, but might be challenging on some trails. Rudy's Mini Cooper and Holly's Liberty Biberty will handle any trail, but they'll be eating cold beans straight from the can, setting up tents and sleeping on the ground! The Jaquar... well, what can we say! The Wild Card Bronco looks quite capable off road, too.
@wjonthetrailАй бұрын
That bread van is surprisingly capable check out some of the videos of it out in the wilds of Arizona And yap Rudy and holly’ both built rock crawlers Bleeping jeep with their holy grail not exactly a over lander but they do have a great way to carry there camping gear with that cargo net

The common thing about these builds is towards the end it always ends up being a time crunch. Gotta work 18 hours a day to get it done when for weeks they just dabble with it doing other projects. Like you, I like the Willys build and I love Paul and the Fab Rats dearly, but the Willys was probably the most plain of the build with the Bronco being average as far as bling goes. I thought the other builds were more interesting because they really thought out of the box. When you look at coverage of the OnX build challenge here on you tube you see most people featured the bread truck. It was by far the most interesting because of all the custom stuff. But I think Robby bent the rules a little to finish under budget. I've watched every build in this challenge and I really enjoyed every team. But I can't argue, the people have spoken and Fab Rats won it. Thank you WJonthetrail for posting. You did a great video and I loved your commentary.

Yap I watched as well when bleeping jeep started their build I thought it was going to be a Walmart special. But it turned out pretty cool If you check the vote count they were about even with Fabrats Paul and Chad nailed it for a overland rig if they would have had the back Open we could see how it was organized with pull outs for all their gear Robby I’m sure pushed the limits of a budget but they did not finish so basically disqualified I think if they would have finished it they might have won. I do plan on getting in on Paul’s raffle because I have a soft spot for those old Willys

Putting aside the competition brief for a moment, personally, I think Robby Layton' Nation's build is the most striking. Robby and his team managed to turn the least cool, trendy or groovy vehicle into the exact opposite. I am yet to see it tackle an off-road course or trail, but from the overlanding point of view, it is likely to be the most practical as it offers a comfortable habitation space as well. I do hope they finish it and add insulation and other creature comforts such as a heater, water system and possibly an aircon to it as it looks to be a very practical overlanding camper. To make it road legal in other countries (which is the point of an overlanding globe trotting vehicle), it will need to have proper mudguards (wheel fenders or whatever you call them in the USA) and a few other parts too probably,. However, the ON-X Off-road challenge had different criteria and therefore FabRats won. What is clear however, is that all contestants put a lot of thought and work into their builds and all deserve praise.
@daltonthomas901Ай бұрын
The original build spec said it was to be a Crawler.Then, wanting to be trendy he said Overlander. I'm glad Rudy creates a usable rig for himself and by himself and not a huge crew of other people doing all the work like some others.

Paul stayed most true to what, in my opinion, is an On-X build that reflects what is most useful for their product… overlanding. Really liked the other builds but Paul hit the bullseye.
@chrisjohnson5888Ай бұрын
really there's no place to sleep in there, it's just an off-road vehicle it's not an offlander, there's no place to sleep there's no place to cook, there's nothing to do anything so no he did not win, I wonder how much he cheated to win
@geoffdawes2297Ай бұрын
You idiot. It's the people that voted , that give the team the win. Most people voted for Fab Rats . What other vehicles had sleeping inside the vehicles? And putting up a tent outside is your "overlanding" correct dipshit. As for Robby Layton his build was way over budget. @@chrisjohnson5888

@@geoffdawes2297 Hell, the paint would likely cover most of the "budget".
