When I was younger, I came in behind somewhat of a pioneer in the field we worked in. Before he retired he made hundreds of copies of his work to take with hem! That was his identity! For me? If they would have payed me that much to sweep the floor I would have been happy. By the time I retired, my protege was a Masters level Engineer. People asked if I was an Engineer but I could tell them only that "no, Engineers work for me". Well, I retired when I was 62 and it was a great decision! I want my life for me! I DO NOT miss that work because for me it was just like I said, pushing a broom for that much money would have been just fine!

Duane, you do such a great job providing info. Thank you! I did my own analysis about 2 years ago. I went back to the earliest records were kept, I think around 1860. Result: When Democrats controlled the office of President, Speaker of the House and the majority leaders of the House and Senate, the S &P was down at year end, inflation was up and unemployment was up. When Democrats controlled the office of President, and two of the other positions, either Speaker or Majority leaders of House or Senate, the markers were up a little. When the Republicans controlled the office of President, Speaker of the House and the leadership of the House & Senate, the S & P was up a healthy amount, inflation was low and unemployment was low, too. I hope and pray history repeats itself with this administration ! 🙏😁

I think, to go along with the others who mention uncertainty...I don't have strong evidence, but (without taking sides politically, just a thought...) I think the market was at least partially responding to the fact that the election was decisive, and there would be no big turmoil in terms of challenges to the results and any potentially ugly happenings. THANK YOU for not getting political here -- some of my favorite channels have done the opposite, and it just turns me off.

More and more people might face a tough time in retirement. Low-paying jobs, inflation, and high rents make it hard to save. Now, middle-class Americans find it tough to own a home too, leaving them without a place to retire.

The increasing prices have impacted my plan to retire at 62, work part-time, and save for the future. I'm concerned about whether those who navigated the 2008 financial crisis had an easier time than I am currently experiencing. The combination of stock market volatility and a decrease in income is causing anxiety about whether I'll have sufficient funds for retirement.

This is precisely why I like having a portfolio coach guide my day-to-day market decisions: with their extensive knowledge of going long and short at the same time, using risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying it off as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, their skillset makes it nearly impossible for them to underperform. I've been utilizing a portfolio coach for more than two years, and I've made over $800,000.

I think the retirement crisis will get even worse. A lot of people can’t save because of low paying jobs, inflation, and insane rental rates. And now that home ownership is out of reach for middle class Americans, they won’t have a house to retire with either.

Things are a bit strange right now. Inflation is making the dollar weaker for buying things like basic needs, but it's getting stronger against other stuff. So, stuff like stocks, houses and precious metals aren't doing so great because folks are putting their money into banks for safety but I'm worried about my retirement savings losing value fast.

If you are in cross roads or need sincere advise on the best moves to take now its best you seek an independent advisor who knows about the financial markets. It's better to hire a skilled financial planner especially if you're not one yourself. I hired one after my retirement pension took a hit in April due to the crash.

Great video. I don't have as much saved yet as I'd like to at 53, but my house is paid off, and my monthly expenses including travel for work, hotel a couple of days a week, taxes and insurance, groceries etc. run right at $2k per month. I'm saving aggressively, and hope that I'll have enough to retire by 62, 65, etc. We'll see how it all pans out. To me, it's like you said - expenses are what matters. If your outlay is minimal, life is a lot easier.

Some of these “experts” are taking an average. Everyone has a different situation. My number is going to be different than many others. Married, debt free, paid off home, conservative spender, aggressive investor, retired well before 65. I think you make $500K VERY realistic depending on lifestyle. My definition (just mine)… rich is showy, wealth is more stealth.

This video raises some interesting points about retirement savings. I’ve heard that having $500k can be a decent starting amount, but I'm curious how many actually live comfortably off that.

How can you be lonely when married? Simple, loneliness is internal, like fear, anxiety, stress & should be addressed from within. Some have many friends and still feel a sense of loneliness. I live alone, never married and I don’t feel lonely at all. Loneliness is a state of mind.

I retired at 64 and a half. My goal was 65 but I didn’t want to hang in there another 6 months. I couldn’t take the mental stress of my job and the office politics. The majority of Americans don't have a pot to piss in, let alone a retirement fund. Of my core group of friends, talking 8 people, 5 (including me) even have a retirement fund. And those are millionaires/multi-millionaires. The other 3 have either nothing or less than $100k. And those 3 aren't stupid. One is a Lawyer, Software Engineer and Bank VP. 🤷

Pensions for some backed up by the full power of the government police state and not one red Cent In pension payment for others. The 401K is for organizations with no military and police force attached to it. Therefore there is a correlation between power and monthly money for no current work being done.

Cash flow is key, IMO. I am blessed with a pension and am holding out for SS. I am almost making it on a pension alone. When and if, we have social security I plan to have more than enough, not including an IRA that has no guarantees. I am also married, so my 67 year old wife puts us in the 9% you speak of. Compared to former coworkers we are poor, but having a pension is one of the 40 reasons I retired early.

I retired with $2M last year at 57, and all my friends were telling me that I'm crazy it's not enough to retire. After one year my investments have grown by $100K excluding all expenses. I travelled 6 mos overseas and only spent $70K in total even though my budget was $90K. It can be done, you've just be frugal and use common sense.

I also retired last year with 2.3M at 57, I moved to the Dominican Republic, and I spend $50K per year. I will never spend more than the money that I make investing the 2.3M, I plan to grow my savings while I'm retired by not spending too much.
