I have this exact set up but in OHV 16HP. It has run like a champ, besides carb, solenoid replacement, since I bought it almost 24 years ago. I finally replaced the muffler since I thought it would be worn out after all this time and it had the "quiet package," but it didn't get one decibel quieter.

I have a 96 SW2 that doesn't throw sparks, it cranks but never starts. On jumpers it once in a while acts like it throws one weak spark but then always goes back to just no spark cranking. Starter is good. ICM replaced. Plugs and plug wires replaced. Crankshaft position was the first replacement. New coils. Still no spark. A field test made me and a friend point to the pcm as the source. Had no trouble codes and showed signs that it didn't even know the engine was turning over. Replaced, still cranks with no spark. The wires all aren't broken. Even other connections like grounds aren't broken. Nss is fine. Just, any ideas on what the deal could be? Everyone I talk to or have help me is stumped just like me.

It would be helpful to see you actually undoing the nuts, bolts, etc. so we actually see how easy or difficult this job really is. Do appreciate what has been shown.

Just so everyone knows atleast here in CA the Malibu has a catalytic converter warranty that covers either 150,000 miles or ten years what ever comes first I’m sharing this to help people I just saved 3000 dollars on it and I hope It can save you guys money

Why did you pull the entire crossover pipe? A water pump only requires removing a couple lines, the housing and the pump the rest is only needed if you are going to fix the heater pipe fitting that always leaks.

Completed the job but I got a p0420 code. Checked and I have a leak at the flange. I used the new gasket that came with the manifold. Can I use a thicker gasket or is it possible I installed it incorrectly?

Just had mine done and yes it's a pain in the ass . The mechanic really made it harder on himself by not pulling the water pump housing out. He did it with the housing all in the water which made it nearly impossible

I keep getting p0420 every couple hundred miles. Changed the manifold already.changed both 02 sensors. Car doesn’t have any bad car symptoms. Do you the the front cat converter is causing me issues?

Just take the rail off. Makes the whole job a lot easier get stuff out of the way so you can reach things. And you don't have to worry about breaking the fuel rail. This is definitely a poorly designed engine but they are good engines and with proper maintenance will go 200,000 mi no problem.

Okay I've got a 2002 sc2 that dies after it warms up and won't restart until it cools back down. the code it's throwing is the P0341 camshaft position sensor which has caused me to replace everything from the ignition module all the way to the spark plugs and I'm still having the same issues. Would the crankshaft position sensor be worth replacing or do I just need to take it to the mechanic finally?

Man did all that work for nothing . There's Special waterpump tool, that unlocks it from the housing.. no need in removing the whole assembly .. maybe 30min job

How in the hell did you get the new gaskets installed? Yeah the bolts are a pain in the ass, (13mm ratchet wrench is gold) but I think the hardest part of this job is reinstalling the crossover while keeping the 4 new gaskets aligned and inserted properly. Sigh!
