The only thing which perplexes me regarding DP’s cabin, is why he did not build a floor? It would have been a lot colder with just a gravel earth floor.

Them old motors that were in gear when you stored them. They called them dock wreckers because they jammed the boat against the dock.

Finally the completed answer to the question had about the cash legs. I knew they had to have been replaced. Heard a snip in another video but now :seeing the old critter quarded former legs settles the question.

What a shame Dick didn't accept Jesus Christ as his personal lord and Savior, instead he used his brains to figure out how stupid people are to believe this fucking shit.

I think this ranger should have watched the video before saying the woodsman never stayed in the small cabin…it was used as a shelter while he was building his larger cabin because it was dry, warm….

The ranger in the video is Monroe Robinson, who was friendly with Dick Proenneke during his time at the cabin. He wrote a book called The Handcrafted Life of Dick Proenneke. He and his wife K Schubeck help maintain the cabin site and greet visitors.

Dick was my father's good friend when they were young growing up in Iowa. They left Iowa together and headed west my father stayed in Oregon for many years and then we moved back to Iowa. Dick would stop by to see us when he would be in Iowa to see his family. They were close enough that my parents name me after him, my middle name is Richard.

I am very satisfied with the respect shown DP's cabin and life. Wish I could get there, jealous of those who have. Should be a National Treasure. Thank you Ranger for watching over and trying to recapture Dick's thoughts and motions. We own the DVDs and have watched them many times, read his book. RIP-DP, one of the most outstanding woodsmen to ever live.
