You'd think that, but no. The basis of the lower pay is higher risk, higher risk of maternity leave. Risk balances with reward. Women are cheaper to hire, but those hires come with added risk, which balances it.

Feminists aren't trying to steal the pay of men, we simply think that all people regardless of gender deserve the same pay. That could (if companies weren't too greedy) easily be achieved by simply giving those who are underpaid a raise with out giving those who are fairly paid a pay cut.

The message is he's f**king over the male workers by cutting their pay and giving their losses to the females. Which will probably result in the majority of workers dropping their tools and the factory business grinding to a halt.

Men are losing substantially more than women are gaining in this change. And shelby's making more money. Taking 5 from men and giving it to women is only equal if women make up about half of the workforce. If not, Shelby's taking the difference. If men make up 80% of a 500 ppl workforce and get paid 20 a day, while women make up 20% and get paid 10 a day, the workforce is making 9000 a day total. If both sides start making 15 a day, that total drops to 7500. While Shelby collects 1500 and can say everyone is paid equally.

Lesson in corporate bookkeeping. The individual salary matters less than the whole of payroll (unless its executive compensarion). Units of personnel, msnhours, and pay rate make up overall payroll per period. Pay rates per position per location are only comparatively relevant if production output and cost of living (not pertinent in this clip/era), as well as 'units' of personnel and manhours, in both locations are the same.

No,, its foolish. It puts the men against the women in a time when women had no rights and men were far more likely to respond violently. I havent watched Peaky Blinders, but from the clips I've seen, I'd bet that was Thomas' intent here to put this woman 'in her place,' and understand why it's bad to challenge the status quo to the controllers of her, and their, fates.

Yes, that was his intention. The woman in the video is actually leading a prominent communist party in the show, so her actions speak for a hell of a lot more than just equal pay for women. That's why Thomas had to think of a way to cleverly and quickly put her down like this. She later threatens him by saying she'll bring out all her brothers and sisters on strike, and walks out the door but Tommy wasn't threatened in the least.
