Also don’t forget the original Skid Row where he first met Phil, and Neil Murray was the first bass player of Colosseum II, he then joined Canterbury band National Health and then of course came Whitesnake & Black Sabbath .

The harmonies in this song are lovely and the piece is infused with a sort of mysterious spirituality. I always turn the volume up and let it lift my spirits. Thanks for sharing this!

Zappa was talking about the MUSIC INDUSTRY not musical styles. the problem and the tragedy. ''making music' comes from the soul. executives [money-makers] cannot make music, improvise, play music with others or create pathos. if they cared about music-making they would FUND free music academies FOR EVERY GENRE. these people have robbed the mind & psyche of the music that will 'soothe our soul'' in times of crisis & celebration. taking music lesson & sharing our heart felt expression is the only way to RECLAIM the power of music for the benefit of humanity

before the INDUSTRY took over the SF style of acid rock it was not about record sales. it was local concerts, club dates, in the park, at home or in the garage music. people PLAYING music everywhere, ENJOYment camaraderie and socializing. these are the things music industry has stolen from our lives.

The audio dynamics on this album are amazing. I so miss the days when having to pay to use a recording studio, producer and engineers was an awesome filter of people who shouldnt be musicians. Now any talentless idiot can buy a laptop and some software and become a recording artist. Music is worse for it.

This was not a bad album, but it was not YES. YES like all these bands did sold out.

I beg your pardon, but Yes never sells out. They changed with the times, but maintain the yesness in their songs. Yes music is its own genre. Since Topographic Oceans, every album Yes made is different than all of them before it. 90125 is no exception. Even today, each new Yes album is different than the others before it. And that will continue indefinitely.
@David-iv6je
@David-iv6je 4 күн бұрын
@@charleswagner2984 I disagree. 90125 was the first album to be cliched at times. Rabin's solo on "Owner" is on lists of the worst guitar solos of all time, and those awful keyboard stabs by Tony Kaye were similarly panned. There's some great stuff on the record but the interspersal with bad cliches sets it apart from the earlier Yes material.

Here in Australia, I think "Gimme A Little Sign" holds the record, in the physical era, for the largest drop off the charts by a single - it was at #2 the week before the infamous 1970 Radio ban and was completely off the charts the week after it started.

I don't know where all the negativity about this album came about - I remember when it came out everyone seemed to love it for much the same reasons you set out here. If they would have put Darlene from Coda on instead of "Hot Dog", it would have aged much better, I guess. But I'm like you, I think it's great. Except Hot Dog which is one of the worst songs they ever did and just doesn't fit. The GX-1 was used because they did the album at Polar, so they'd have used ABBAs.

Just about every line in the song is a double entendre, that's no accident, which probably makes it one of the cleverest songs ever written.
