Which Tang Soo Do Association are you a part of? I know the World TSD Association uses a different belt system. When I first started training in TKD (in the Jhoon Rhee system) our forms were very similar to those used in TSD. Eventually we shifted to the Chong Hon forms and there was some distancing - but we never adopted the sein-wave theory used in many ITF schools today. If my grandchildren got interested in martial Arts today, I would encourage them to study TSD or find a traditional TKD school. Thanks for the video.

The beginning Tan Tui salute into yoke punch then into taijiquan roll back and push/press. Very interesting mix hwang kee added to his form.

Can someone tell me why this form uses the opening salute of the Muslim 10/12 road Tan Tui form? Also why is half the technique look exactly like the tan Tui forms including the yoke punches( where you punch to the front and back at the same time or you punch but keep the opposite arm extended) The only thing missing is the tan Tui ends every movement with a front toe kicks. Also I have a book on hwa Soo do/tang Soo do form called sorim jang kwon. And the pictures and descriptions of the movements are the exact same as Chin Woo associations Jie Quan or Quick fist also known as Shaolin Quan in the 1920s a form invented by Chin Woo associations for intermediate level students after shi er lu tan Tui or 12 road/form tan Tui. Did hwang kee study Chin Woo association martial arts of manchuria?? Their beginning forms are 12 road Tan Tui then Jie Quan(Shaolin Quan) and 108 Tajiquan long form then You are allowed to choose different styles after. Hwang kee said to have studied Ship ee ro dham toi then sorim jang Kwon then taekuk Kwon which all sound very familiar.

Hello, what's a fair price range for testing ?
@TrinityMartialArtsNY5 ай бұрын
It's hard because it depends on where you're located and what's involved in your test. I will say, for color belts at my school, we do not charge any belt testing fees because the belts cost a total of $3 and our belt testings are held one night a month, on a night we would normally have classes. It's no more time spent for me....so why are other schools charging $50 for a color belt test?

The jumping punch is actually correct here. So many others get it wrong. Cobra form though...lighter on the feet.

i also work as a martial arts teacher and the kids i supervise usually also have a really hard time differentiating between "listening" and "understanding". Its like theyre a recorder that captures everything you say word for word without contemplating what youre saying. the mind of a child is quite amazing tbh

I dont disagree with the palm strike thing for the reasons you stated, and knees and elbows all day for the same reasons you stated. Before even addressing fighting off an attacker I recommend EVERYONE get to a point in their cardio where they can sustain a brisk job for a mile. Every self defense instructor will tell you to create distance once you break free but it serves you nothing if you can't get far enough away to save yourself before gassing out

I’m a big fan of “pressure testing” students. I don’t want anyone to get hurt, but if there’s no threat of contact then are you really being pushed? That's why sparring is important.

What's your interpretation of the moves at 1:10 and 1:19? Have seen a number of variations of this form, and this move seems to be the thing that changes the most.
@TrinityMartialArtsNY Жыл бұрын
It's a great question. The first thing I would point out is that I don't think that sequence (or any sequence in any form/hyung/kata) necessarily has to be one long combination. Sometimes the moves are independent of each other or can even be in response to one another. And I would never claim my interpretation is the only right one. I teach the X-press as grabbing and pulling in. This could be seen as preparation for the strike with the uppercut, and even the high block can be a strike to the jaw. The retreat on one foot I often hear as step back away from a kick, but I focus more on the hands, where the circling motion can be used for a take down. Lastly, if you interpret the retreat as a jump away from a kick, the following move can be seen as capturing the kick and then lifting to throw/off balance the opponent. Would love to hear other thoughts/interpretations
