A few corrections - when you talk about manors it suggests the image you use is of a manor when it looks more like a city or large town with ports and defensive walls. Manor houses of the medieval period could get very large but not to the size and complexity of a city. Most of them would have been only a bit larger than what we would consider a normal sized house today with an additional outside court. Remember most houses for 'common folk' were just one or two rooms. You said Knights were known for their 'chivalry' and for 'always helping a woman', they're a romantic Victorian myths, Knights were more like thugs with status. Unless they were apart of a Religious order which they may joined to repent their former sinful ways as a regular knight. You said women were more independent because 'their men were away defending the land', Women prior to the Renaissance were generally independent. their duties may have been different (although not always, for example there were female soldiers) and the Church saw them as more prone to sin because Eve had been tempted first but they were no lower in class in any major way nor were they lacking in responsibility.
