The idea of combining the four main themes in the coda of the Finale of Bruckner’s Ninth Symphony, in a manner similar to the Eighth Symphony, has long seemed difficult to achieve as a convincing 'crowning of the work.' The very feasibility of it has been questioned. It was advanced that the themes do not fit well enough together. But is it so?
