I have played video poker for two hours with only $20 dollars.On a slot machine I lose $20 dollars in five minutes. I am sticking with video poker.I do it for entertainment not to make money.

Video poker is rigged, plain and simple. Don’t even play. You’re wasting your money. You mostly get a pair to draw; get nothing. You have 4 cards to a Royal or Flush; you get nothing. That “strategy” “perfect play” payback is all bullshit. Don’t even do it.

It is true that the game is designed for the house to win, but there are ways to maximize your chances of winning. Your skeptical attitude about mathematically provable strategies will insure your losses will come faster than those that play with a strategy, unless you get extremely lucky. Which can happen. I suggest that you start in a keno lounge, if they have one in the casino that you're going to. Play a discounted special if they have one otherwise start off with a 4 spot. One you win you can fool around with a 5, 6 and 7 spot. Once you get the 'feel' move to the machines. They usually pay a lot better but the games go much faster. May the good news be yours!

There’s some really bad advice in this video. If you have all low cards but no pairs, check for a straight draw. ALWAYS hold 4 to the straight, especially if it’s an open ended straight (you have 8 outs to catch to hit the straight). Also 3:39 player gets dealt 7 K 10 A J - ALWAYS keep that gut shot in Jacks or better or Bonus Poker unless at least 3 of them are suited to the Royal. The player in the video only keeps K J. Terrible play. Not sure what else is wrong in this video as I had seen enough and closed this feed.

Thanks for the comment, but you have obviously missed the context of this video. We created it for those who are not interested in learning video poker strategy but to play reasonably well, casually. Specifically, you suggest that you should always hold 4 to a straight. Correct advice is NEVER hold 4 to an inside straight in Jacks or Better. Looking for open 4 to straights is correct, but not in the context of this particular video. The intent of the video is to make it as simple as possible for a somewhat disinterested player. With that in mind, what you are saying at 3:39 is also very wrong. Dropping the Ace in that situation is one of the first learned plays when studying any Jacks or Better strategy. You're much more likely to improve that hand by holding the KJ. Chasing royals with your gut is a losing strategy. You may feel comfortable with such decisions, but posting on this thread as an 'expert' on this game shows your lack of perspective in this case.

@@TheMysticGambler- I partially disagree with you on the inside straights, although I get it that you are providing a simpler strategy for the casual gamer. I would draw to an inside straight in Jacks or Better if I am holding three high cards of different suits. As for the play at 3:39, your hold opened up the chance for a royal flush, making it the optimal play.

Thank you i bought your strategy guide and play live draw keno. I play carch all $1.25 two cards of pick 3 and 2 cards of pick 4. Ob iously all overlapping aa taught. Im up $1500 to aeound $500 bet. The keno callers love me because i tip well and we all have fun. Im trying to get enough guts to move up to 5-7 number cards. Thanks again!

You don't necessarily have to learn another one but if you want to add volatility to your play ( highs and lows) to your gambling adventures, then the next step would be learn a bonus game. One that you can play using the same strategy and is not too volatile is called Bonus Poker. The best paytable for that is 8/5 if you can find it. Just make sure that two pairs double your bet, as some sneaky casinos only pay even money for two pairs. But you'll get a bonus for four aces and special hands. After that, and with a bigger budget, you could move to Double Bonus or Double-Double Bonus. The jackpots are bigger, but so is the risk of having painful losing sessions. I knew nothing about poker or video poker 10 days ago before seeing this video(like I didn’t even know what a flush was). Been playing like crazy, long sessions. Not really losing anything. Converted $250 free play into $275 cash using this last night at MGM. And I wasted some free play on slots and I tried a few ultimate X hands. Definitely going to focus on video poker now. Which game is best to learn next?

Now that you have the basics for Jacks or Better games, you could move to the bonus versions fairly easily. Bonus Poker uses the same strategy and is still steady. Double Bonus starts getting very streaky, with big mountains and deep valleys. Later look at learning the Deuces games.

If the goal is to win any amount, even the lowest, then yes this is true. But if you're searching for higher payouts this is wrong.

The goal for me is to keep playing as long as I can. So yes, most of the time I want to win any amount, based on the hand that I'm dealt. Chasing the higher payouts leads to short sessions and lower comps and points.

"Draw Poker" and "Jacks are Better" are normally the same game. Just make sure that the pay table pays you 2 credits (per coin in) for two pairs. Thanks for the comment.

A flush draw refers to having 4 cards in your hand that are of the same suit, holding all 4 cards and taking a deal, hoping that you get a card of the same suit as the 4 that you held. If all five cards in your hand are of the same suit, that's a flush and you win. Thanks for the question.

Did you say 1/7 flushes hit? Is that because you already have 4 cards from that suit out there it lowers it that much? Cuz typically you'd think it would hit 1/4 for a specific suit..

Yeah, it's roughly one out of 7. During actual play, it can be frustrating because you would think it would be 1 out of 4. Years ago a poker math wiz explained it to me but I don't remember the details.

It would be 1 out of 4 odds if it were a full 52 card deck (13 cards of each suit). But if you already are holding 4 cards of the same suit, then your odds of catching the 5th suited card go way down because there’s only 9 of those left in the deck, 13 of one suit, 13 of another suit, and 12 of the 4th suit. Odds change dramatically and constantly once any 1 card is exposed.

Yes. The highest pay is 9/6, but it is increasingly hard to find. Most people are more likely to find 9/5 or even worse.That's why I used it. As the video says, play the highest pay table that you can find. Thanks for the question.

I still see video poker all the time in Vegas and elsewhere. The main legitimate issue has to do with their default pay charts. Finding 9/6 machines is becoming fewer and further between which IS disconcerting, though of course as long as everyone does their homework and inspect the pay charts before playing any machine as well as practice strategy accordingly, you can still more than hold your own on 8/5 or even 7/5 machines.

a good pattern. I hit it once and a lot of 5 of 7. so I took it further and used the pattern and added each 5 spot in that 7 spot on 20 card keno/Ihit a few 5 spots in 10 min. so you get a 5 spot hit and if the 7 spot comes in you get multiple 5 spots with that 7 spot.

Of course it's legit. This method is simply an updated version of the only Keno system know to increase ones ability to win more often (Reduction Theory). It's been around almost since the Chinese invented the game over 2,000 years ago. But remember, Keno is still a game of chance. May the good news be yours!

The cards were Ace of diamond Jack of space 9 of club Queen of club 2 of heart. In this you kept only the A of diamond. Then another hand was Jack of heart 7 of spade Queen of Spade 9 of club and Ace of Club. In this, you kept the Jack of heart and Queen of spade. Can you explain this more since both hand had Ace ,Queen, Jack and Nine only difference were the 2 and the 7.

There is a very minimal difference in the EV of the hands based on absolute mathematically perfect play. Playing with the Pro Software, it calculates those minor differences and choses the best EV, regardless of how fractional. It bases that selection on what's commonly referred to as "penalty" cards. Holding a card of slightly higher value (or lower) may increase the EV ever-so-slightly but, never-the-less, one card could change the possibility of improving the hand (or not) over the other. Thus the term "penalty card." Most players don't bother with learning those and I probably did a disservice to the community by using the program that includes those without explaining that on the right of the screen you can see why the computer selected one hold over another.
