7:28 Ariel is a British brand, not American. What you are calling of "Portuguese brand" are in fact self brand and/or white-label (no brand/label, produced for the distribution shop by a third party). As those are products without marketing costs, they have lower prices.

You compared very different products, so this is a bit all over the place. The scented "pearls" you pointed out are notoriously expensive, even the European brands, which exist, btw. It's not because it's an American brand, it's because it's _a_ brand. It's not even detergent, it's just perfume. What you showed next to those pearls was liquid detergent for delicate textiles (silks and wool, for example), and it was the off-brand - as were many of the other products you showed which were much cheaper. Those are all very different things. Friskies, for example, belongs to Nestlé, which isn't an American company. Brand products are expensive, but large supermarket chains such as Continente, Auchan and Pingo Doce all have their own brand, and those products are always much cheaper. Btw, you won't find any Lidl close to Rato (where you were in the video). You'll need to get to Saldanha or S. Sebastião for the closest Lidl. But that advice on shoes is spot on.
@TheOriginalCharlesBilliАй бұрын
@@Palmieres Thank you for the clarifications, but don’t look too deep into it. Americans know the cost of everyday products. I was showing what was on the shelves and the prices. It’s a direct price comparison, regardless of brand. For the thousands of Americans who are looking at Portugal as a possible place to retire, these simple price comparisons help them do the math. You’ll notice I do this in all of my videos. I didn’t go to Lisbon as a tourist. I went as a researcher and student. I did everything in Lisbon that I do in Tampa, because I wanted to see the difference in “cost of living.” I went to the dentist, I got my hair cut, I went grocery shopping, I spoke with a real estate agent, I asked about utility cost (and surprised it’s included in most rents!) I went to a farmers market, I went clothes and shoe shopping, and I have a relocation agency that is helping me put together everything I need for my D7. I know this is more information than you wanted, but it may help you to understand why I shot the videos the way I did. Thank you for watching! 😎
