I remember finding it mesmerising to watch this ad when I was younger, especially because of the music.

We used to get this in the UK on the Challenge channel. I find it interesting to see how the worldwide franchise created so many spinoffs and wild variations of the original UK format, yet here in the UK itself we've probably been the country that has stuck closest to the original despite it being created here. We just never adopted much of the overseas twists on the game. By and large, we've only had the main show. There was one very short run of a pilot season spinoff called Fastest Finger First a couple of years ago, but it tanked. It was produced for daytime, and the prize was a guaranteed place in the hotseat on Millionaire. Not entertaining at all. As for the main show itself, there was a tweak to the money tree in 2007 which reduced the number of questions from 15 to 12. Then, I think in 2010, a clock was introduced. But that's really the extent of changes ever made. In 2018, the show was revived after a four year hiatus and reverted to the original format barring a few minor tweaks. Some of these worldwide variations are interesting, some are really enjoyable. But for whatever reason, there has never been an appetite to stray far from the original game here.

They took away the clock after a few years too. The British format has stayed very true to the original.

So this ad is a few years old? Sounds right because neither Woolies or Coles employs Aussie teens anymore. Every supermarket I’ve been in anywhere in the country in the last couple of years are all staffed by Indians……not the cowboy type.
