something i wonder about virginals with the keybed parallel to the strings like this one is, is there any noticeable difference with the action of the keys that are so much longer on the right than on the left? i guess there really shouldn't be much of a difference but i would imagine more key material, more mass to move. also, would this virginal be classed as a muselar? I really appreciate your channel, and I wish more of your videos had open comment sections for the purpose of asking questions. hope you're well, and curious what's going on at the workshop lately.

Hello Peter. Could you please help me with my Queen Elizabeth virginal. It was one of the first instruments I made. It does not sound good. As you probably know, the register is glued to the underside of the soundboard. This seems to have damped the tone terribly. I have now started another. I propose to have more length in the base to facilitate plucking and tension of the lower strings. If I separated the register from the soundboard would that improve the tone? I realise this would be incorrect historically. Maybe the problem is with the soundboard. I can’t remember how thick it is. It is quarter sawn close grain European Spruce. Thanks in anticipation for any advice

Like you I enjoy making harpsichords, gliding and jazz. In my old age I get airsick now in a glider if I’m not flying it.

I think it's a shame more people didn't see the Hurly Burly shows. One of the highlights of my festival seeing them do Elbow - and the poor guy waiting for his food just being left standing!
