Hey! I just bought this exact unit from Japan (I definitely bought it after I watched this video. The start-up animations are amazing). I found mine without the power cable though, so I was wondering how you were able to power it? Do you know where I could find the correct cable? And does that animation play off of the unit alone? Or does it need to be connected to a larger computer? Thank you and talk soon!

@@CaseyJProductions Thank you for your comments from overseas. This GPS-V7 has a dedicated power cable and cannot be used with wiring from other models. Also, even if a power cable is attached, most GPS-V7s left in Japan will not turn on due to aging due to capacitor leakage.

Thanks for the quick reply! I’m planning on taking it apart and assessing it’s interior condition tomorrow. My plan is to retrofit it as a modern gps unit with Apple CarPlay, but want to at least try to utilize the original screen. Also would love to program the old start-up animations into the new CarPlay unit, so I want to at least try to power the unit up as-is to try and rip the animations. Are you able to share a photo of both ends of the original power cable? I super interested in finding one.

@@CaseyJProductions Mine is not a pure original, but has been repaired by replacing all the capacitors, replacing the screen, and displaying images from an external input, and is now working. As for the GPS unit, the AVIC-G10 and GPS-G5, which were released later, are the same unit, so they are the same, but when it comes to wiring, the only options are to take it apart and redo the wiring, or to buy one that comes with wiring. I don't think there is. I've never tried showing it on Apple CarPlay, so I don't know. However, if you use external input, you may be able to watch KZbin etc. I don't have a GPS-V7 on hand right now, so I don't have any pictures of the wiring. I'm sorry.
