some people fail words-descriptions. use simulators to describe seas-oceans and call ghostbusters. never call enemies because enemies send missiles instead of drop life-raft from c130

Those particle effects would be impressive a quarter century ago when Silent Hunter 3 was out. How in 2023 is this remotely acceptable? This is absolute garbage.

This looks amazing, it would be awesome if you could split out the ship physics stuff to work with other ocean rendering systems, I'm using Crest & DWP2 but I think your Boat Physics features might be better than DWP2.
@thestormrider4818 Жыл бұрын
Thanks ! I was expecting such comment and I already thought about splitting the physics for other water asset. Although the physics and procedural splash audio could surely work with any asset provided a performant GetWaterHeight API, what would not is the particle system. Its main feature is that when sea foam particles fall on the water surface they leave sea foam floats, making a satisfying effect. To make this work it is required to copy the whole wave model into VFX graph and shader graph and I'm not sure Crest have that. Also things that makes my physics realistic is the wave shape and spatial repartitions (I think with DWP2 we have roughly the same core physics). I spent of lot of effort in my wave model to make the wave shape and spatial repartitions more realistic and so naturally the ship react more realistically (more specifically, the wave being non-permanent and sharp, the ships pitch less quickly and not permanently)

Could you pls show how to add ctrest to dwp2
@imDanoush Жыл бұрын
Perhaps adding this to Crest (available on GitHub) would be feasible with its depth texture - I assume that you may be able to _register_ the new height of the wave to the surface shader (and you can get the height of the bottom of the shader using the Reg Height script of Crest) and it would look 3D and real. This looks great, and on an ocean shader like Crest, it would look grandiose!
I really did not get it. Very windy but with low rolling waves without white peaks. Big sail high up the main mast, threatenig to overturn the ship. Weird ...
@thestormrider4818 Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for your feedback! Next time I'll set a more agitated water then ! As for the sail setup, the idea is to make more visual effect with high heeling (the sails actually power and heel the ship with realistic forces)
@StarChick971 Жыл бұрын
Looks awesome but the major challenge will be going 3d at the shoreline with open ocean rendering (however you already have the open seas effect which is great). Keep up the good work!

I hope that your wave systems are defined by wind direction and speed and similar. Just a strong preference!
@thestormrider4818 Жыл бұрын
That is planned to be integrated to ease the setup of the ocean. We will need to set the current wind and its evolution (freshening or dying) and that will defines the intensity, direction and wavelength of every wave layer.

I could, but the point of this video is a show off of the futur asset that will generate only the audio you can hear (water and wind) The game devs who will buy it would need to add more audio element.

It would be super cool if the camera rotated like it was anchored to the floor of the ship. Like when the front of the ship goes up, what i see is sky. Or maybe mixture of the current camera behaviour and some spice from the rotation of the ship
@thestormrider48182 жыл бұрын
I've tried to do so, but appart from the difficulties of managing quaternions, the result was way too much seasickness for anybody not used to. And I realized it shouldn't be part of the asset anyway.
