I think the comments below miss the point of the solace interpretation of this work - a prayerful reflection, on the tempest fears, - it is not a reenactment of the trauma at sea, or in storm. But a reliance on the God who sees us through all of life's experiences....a reflection of gratitude for the Eternal Father's presence in all things to sustain, comfort, and see us through. I am moved to tears by t his work. It honors God's providence.

You’re going to hear this hymn every September 8 in Galveston, Texas. The reason? The day is the anniversary of The Great Hurricane of 1900 that obliterated much of the city and killed 13000 people

The song is a prayer to God as if sung on the deck of a ship in peril in a violent storm. Orchestra and choir is not conveying that feeling. Cadence should be faster and in time as if with ship’s prow as I crashes down into each new wave.

Too bad the quality of this recording does NOT do this performance justice. This is TERRIBLE! This was a beautiful performance, ruined for us by the TERRIBLE recording quality. I am SUPER ANGRY about this. Why? Why even bother??????????????????

Lovely. The gentle quiet approach changes the feeling of the hymn. It's beautiful -- like an elegy.

1 Eternal Father, strong to save, Whose arm does bind the restless wave, Who bids the mighty ocean deep Its own appointed limits keep; O hear us when we cry to Thee For those in peril on the sea. 2 O Savior, whose almighty word The winds and waves submissive heard, Who walked upon the foaming deep, And calm amid the rage did sleep; O hear us when we cry to Thee For those in peril on the sea. 3 O Holy Spirit, who did brood Upon the waters dark and rude, And bid their angry tumult cease, And give for wild confusion peace; O hear us when we cry to Thee For those in peril on the sea. 4 O Trinity of love and power, Your children shield in danger's hour; From rock and tempest, fire, and foe, Protect them where-so-e'er they go; Thus, evermore shall rise to Thee Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

I am stunned! Not one rock band, soul, R&B group? What a bummer!! Hell, even Jimi Hendrix, Credence Clearwater Revival, and Toy Caldwell from the Marshal Tucker Band, an ex-Marine wounded in Vietnam, supported the troops versus the thousands of anti-war anti-Vietnam vet rock music.

Beautiful. Tears streaming at "Arlington"... Still to this day I remember seeing the vast fields of white headstones (as a 4 year old) fully understanding what it meant, and 50+ years later has only deepened my heartfelt love and gratitude for their ultimate sacrifice. God Bless each and everyone laid to rest in this and other Military Cemeteries. And for those who do now and who will one day wear the uniform of one of the Armed Services branches of the United States, I Thank You and ask God to Bless you, protect you, comfort you and keep you embraced in His Loving Arms. Thank you, we are the Land of The Free... Because of the Brave! *LK* (edit: Seriously, 673 views, 10 👍 and only 1 comment...🙁)
