My advice is to do the job outside in the direct sun. A warmed up gasket is much easier to work with.

good point. if we do another video we will try to have a person actually walking around with the camera to get better views.

I was told by a classic auto glass specialist years ago that the seal will always leak unless you use a bedding compound. A bunch of other "how to" videos are dry installs. Yours does a great job explaining WHERE and HOW to use the compound. Many thanks!

You can seal the rubber where it meets the cowl & roof panel, stops the water coming through to the pinch weld preventing future rust & less chance of sealer making it's way to the head lining.

I’m looking at a ‘55 Nomad. The windshield and gasket are installed but the top trim is gone. Will the windshield have to come out in order to get that trim in the slot on the gasket?

Helpful... but position your phone cam in LANDSCAPE (horizontal) rather than in portrait (verticle). Really enhances the 'watchability factor'.

Great video. The last tri five windshield I installed was over 30 years ago and I needed to know what the latest products and methods that are being used. You have provided the most in-depth and complete video that includes the sealers and methods that others seem to leave out. Thanks for helping an old dog get back in the game.

The reason you had to struggle so much is a common mistake when installing these. Never attempt to drop it over the lower pinch weld, you will always have a problem getting it to drop (because of the compound curves) far enough to get the top in. Always center the glass/gasket in the opening, and take advantage of the flexibility of the gasket to rope over the pinch weld. Also these are designed to install dry, no sealant, but I understand the desire to add sealant for insurance.

Thanks for the video. I was wondering,you probably replaced the windshield seal with a new one. Where did you get it ? Also just love the stock colours that you did the truck in. I have a 1978 F250 super cab ,4 wheel drive with the Dana 60 front end.

use a flat screw driver and pull on the inner lip of the seal of the rubber, go all the way around 3 times and the windshield will suck into place, do not pound on or push the windshield you will prob break it. same for the rear window. windshields are actually easy to install on 55 57 chevies and only require one person.

I don't think anyone has broken a windshield with their hands, but that's a neat idea.👍

I have a 57 chevy truck , whats the best place to order glass? or are all manufactures the same? thanks in advance
@shawclassicautoworks8918 Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure, Mike. I did put one in a 57 truck but customer supplied the glass, ive not purchased one. I usually go through my local windshield place when i order vintage glass unless it's custom flat glass. Local windshield place gets a better glass shipping rate and often times these days the shipping on glass is much more than the glass itself.
