why are you riding these ridiculously oversized bikes when you clearly can't handle them?
@torutara87Күн бұрын
These huge bikes dont seem fit for these kind of roads, ill never understand why people buy these instead of a more comfortable tourer alongside a smaller offroad bike. I was considering getting a tenere 700 but after seeing how people struggle i might get a ktm 390 adv r, its literally what ive been looking for this last year, since with my 500cc naked i cant go offroad or do anything id actually enjoy doing. Hopefully the ktm doesnt weight too much for its use!

I had an F850GSA (the star of many of those dumps). I have never ridden a bike before or since that just loved to smack its rider to the ground at every opportunity like the F850GSA did. Last 12,000 miles on a KTM890 Adventure /s on significantly more difficult rides and it has never taken a nap. I just can't say enough about the importance center of gravity.

99% of these crashes would not have happened on a small dual sport bike. These big bikes are too much for normal humans.

i suggest an intense offroad maxienduro training with an expert teacher/instructor. Practice in a training area before offroading. Everything, posture, handling, controls/throttle/brakes is wrong in this video.

Hi Steve A fabulous video! Well done!! I never even noticed you recording the event. It was the most wonderful week, Great roads, fantastically well organised, lovely BMW staff. I had a ball, and would be happy to do it all again in a heartbeat. Can't wait for TS 2025. I hope to see you there on that one.

I've ridden most of the bikes I've owned in the dirt, but none of them weighed 600 lbs. I'm not sure why you'd want to do that to yourself. Also, I wouldn't dignify falling over by calling it a crash.

That Beemer looks very comfortable. Having ridden both Harleys and big Beemer touring bikes, I can appreciate the "tractor to a Rolls Royce" comment, albeit a tractor with a lounge chair! I've only got a Ninja 1000, but this makes me want to fire it up, so I'm taking a break from work and will head off to buy some milk at a Woolies not so close to home! Any excuse...

Some great insights there and thank you. I'm 56, rode dirt as a teenager in the country around Bago State Forest on a DT125 but now have been riding road bikes for 25 years, including a Super Blackbird, Ducati ST2 and now a Ninja 1000. Watching Adam Riemann's videos, it's east to become addicted to the idea of going remote on a big GS. It's also easy to think that it's much easier than it really is, with Adam's prodigious skills (and physical strength). A few days ago I had a look at the new F900GS (at Procycles). Fortunately I'm quite fit, but don't have anything like the upper body strength of my younger days and picking up a top-heavy bike like the F900 could be a challenge, especially after a long day in the saddle. Watching your video has made me have a rethink and I really appreciate your wisdom. Cheers from Sydney - Dave

@@StevesBikes01 Thanks Steve - I'm looking forward to it! One thing your videos have also done, is made me want to upgrade my road bike skills too. Regular short coffee runs and the odd ride to meetings in the city (Sydney) are great but nothing like a few focussed sessions in an empty car park for tight turns etc. Cheers and thank you, David

Growing up on dirt on a DT125, now riding sports bikes, at 56 I'm considering an adv bike. However, looking at this, I'm reconsidering my thoughts of buying a new F900GS and sending it bush. Some of these offs appear to be on what appear to be very easy tracks, so no doubt it's much harder with all that weight. Time for a rethink!

Steve. Great video. Love the honesty. Like you I started on a 800 Tiger after many years of road riding. Found it too tall too heavy and generally scared myself. Did some off road skills training and was surprised how different riding off road is to riding on tar. I traded in the Tiger for a smaller single cylinder KTM. Had so much more fun.

i think for off road it is better to stick to trials bikes or motorcross bikes unless you are a really good driver then have a play with these big boys...but be prepared to spend big money on repairs.

Idk why but it looks so funny whenever you fall off when the bike is going slow in a straight line. Having to kick yourself off the bike makes the fall look comically exaggerated lol

What a great video. Just turned 60, been riding street bikes for 50 years. I just bought a BMW R1250GS, so I can hang out off road with my friends, The FJR1300 doesn’t work for that. I’ve realized how little I know about off road riding. I certainly know I have a lot to learn and am considering buying a smaller bike, to learn how to have fun on the 1250. Wow, what a never ending circle to chase. You make some good points, not riding alone is a good one!

Hi, I should let you know it didn’t last. After a year or so the connectors became unreliable and the Zumo wouldn’t reliable charge. I couldn’t fix it so I’ve since removed the 3 Dam and use the standard Zumo out of the box unsecured adaptor.
