My baby is 4 weeks. I had a really traumatic birth and breast feeding has been taking a further toll on my mental health due to baby having tongue tie. I just am.not mentally equipt for this. Ive started combi feeding with formula and breast milk to try and take the pressure off me slightly while still giving baby majority breast milk. However she seems to prefer the bottle now and its become stressful again. I feel so hopeless. I do think I would be a better mum if we dropped the pressure and went to formula. But I feel so guilty 😢

The fact that society pushes mothers to have a "good reason" for not breastfeeding is disgusting to me. You shouldn't have to justify yourself to anyone, period.

I'm so sorry that the nurses didn't give you enough time of day, especially after such a long and traumatic delivery. That really sucks. I really appreciate you posting this video because so many mothers feel this pressure of the "holy grail" of breastfeeding. It's such a terrible mentality to believe that one specific way of parenting or mothering is superior to others when you really don't know someone else's story. Personally, as a first time mom, I'm planning on bottle feeding only - and the side eyes I get from mothers at parenting or birthing classes is insane. What they don't understand is my mental disability and the struggle I've had to endure these last nine months with being off of my regular medication. As a precaution, I don't want my baby feeding off of those medications and becoming addicted from a young age through my breastmilk. Also, I selfishly do want my body back to some degree after baby is born. With that said, I'm not jealous of breastfeeding mothers in any way, shape, or form. If anything, I'm disgusted by the attitude they hold and the judgement they reserve towards their fellow females. Thank you for sharing your story- it means a lot to me personally and I think more moms need to have the courage to share their pros of bottle feeding instead of seeing it in such a negative light.

It's just amazing how many times you had to plead for people to be kind to you in the comments, for making a perfectly acceptable and rational decision about feeding your baby, which is 100 percent your personal choice. I am a postpartum doula in the US and I know from reading the stories on the FED is Best website that the country with the most militancy around breastfeeding is the UK, so I'm not surprised you would be having these uncomfortable feelings. It seems very clear since breastfeeding has become an international public health issue the intensity that accompanies the initiative is also responsible for women feeling shamed and guilty if they are not breastfeeding. This has to stop.

Thanks. For your bravery. I and millions of women live breastfeeding aversion for Multiple reasons. And still avenging and hateful people continue to judge Moms and dads that choose fórmula. I AM a cientist. There is no scientific valid evidence that formula is bad. Studies about breastmilk are biased . As for Many other decisions....parents know best. And we have to respect that.😊😊 Thanks you for your courage.

We need more videos like this that provide different mom first experiences. I tried my best to breastfeed my firtborn with lots of pain but I could tell he wasnt feeding well. Turns out he had a tongue tie, which was only resolve at 10weeks plus. By then I was supplementary with formula and mostly expressing which was how I brought my milk in. When he went on the breast, he cried loads as he bever fed properly. But he didnt cry when he fed from expressed milk or formula. Determined to provide him my milk, i expressed for almost 6 months with ny first which resulted in PND. With my second, I breastfed easier and expressed for only 3 months, but it was a much more pleasant experience. Now with my third - again questioning how long I can go on expressing...

I hate the “breast is best” mantra because it completely ignores that the breast is attached to a whole human being. An emotionally present and happy mom who decides to formula feed because they have the choice may in many cases be better for the baby as well. We’ve been oversold the benefits of breastmilk to the point where we are putting the mental health of women at risk and ignoring the fact that mothering requires more than the availability of her breast.

Thank you so much for making this video! I feel the support!! I have struggled so much with breastfeeding bc I don’t produce enough and my 1st child was so dehydrated bc I was following the “breast is best” rule when my body wasn’t producing. I wish we could do away with the stigma of formula feeding. Your video really helps!

What worked for me was taking breastfeeding classes before giving birth. I knew what to expect and it definitely calmed many of my worries. I think it’s about consistency with the latching. My daughter latched immediately at birth, then somehow forgot how to and we kept trying , but after a few moments of trying to breastfeed, I’d have to use alternative methods like a syringe of expressed milk or expressed milk in a bottle. There have been times where I didn’t have my pump on me and it was hard for me to hand express and my daughter was crying hungry and I just broke down because she couldn’t latch and my nipples were peeling, but I’m glad I didn’t give up because now it’s relatively easy for me although she does alternate between boob and bottle of expressed milk. I personally like to bottlefeed because I can see how much she’s drinking. As long as your baby is getting fed, that’s all that matters.

I’m sorry you had that experience momma. I’m a doula and exclusively breastfeeding mom of 4 and I totally understand what you were saying in this video. You made a lot of valid points. Breastfeeding information and support is so key to breastfeeding successfully and its best to get it during pregnancy cause it’s a HUGE learning curve for most moms after baby is born. That’s why I started my channel to help other moms and family get the correct breastfeeding support they need. Thank you so much for sharing ❤️🙏🏿!

How about just letting women make their own choice without pressure? As a mental health professional I recognize that the “breast is best” folks often seem to forget that the breast is attached to a whole human being. Education and encouragement is fine if the woman wants it but backing off or even letting women know that if they feel like breastfeeding will impact them negatively or interfere with their loving bond with their baby that formula is a wonderful alternative. This pressure and guilt is having a severe negative and mental and emotional impact on women.

First time mom here. When I was pregnant I had set my mind that I was going to breastfeed, but sadly that didn’t happen. I ended up giving birth via c-section and what they don’t tell you is that the anesthesia cloggs your milk ducts making it even harder and more painful to get your milk supply out. So not only did it make me depressed that I was having a near impossible time to breastfeed I realized that a fed baby is a happy baby. It was mentally draining that my milk supply didn’t come in as I hoped, but then I realized as long as my baby is fed that is all that matters, not only that he still needs me so I focused on recovering from my c-section and taking care of him. Now I bottle feed him and he is one growing happy and healthy baby.

It’s okay to bottle feed but just know that you are in fact depriving your child. If your excuse is just you’re too tired, you need sleep, you don’t want to struggle with night feedings then you’re not ready to be a mother, sorry. There’s a lot of valid reasons for choosing not to breastfeed but for your own comfort really shouldn’t be it. I thought most mothers wanted the best for their children? Formula is a last resort for when a mother can’t or isn’t producing enough, when work dries up milk supplies, adoptions, etc. Im tired of so many moms being too selfish to do what’s best for their babies. The formula companies have marketing and ad dollars to convince you that formula is somehow better. There’s ZERO comparison other than they both keep a child fed. That’s it. If you’re giving a child formula it’s like giving a dog pedigree. Yeah they’re not gonna die but you’re literally doing the bare minimum for them

Some people have had traumatic pregnancies. Some aren’t psychically capable of breast feeding. Some mothers don’t want a baby latching to their boobs all day 24/7. My mother bottle fed me and I am completely healthy. Mind your business.
@AndreiFantastic
@AndreiFantastic 2 жыл бұрын
@@bbyckhx I said what I said. The literal first part of it is ITS OKAY TO BOTTLE FEED. A lot of women just have an emotional response to being called out because they know that bottle isn’t best so they feel bad about doing it and get angry when someone calls them on it. Oh well, if your toes get stepped on it’s because you feel guilty. If you were confident in your choice you wouldn’t even bother responding. There’s so many countries where almost all babies are breastfed, American women have excuse after excuse and it’s a little weird

@@sweetieeckay1864 it was effective for my son at first but then it made his eczema worse after few applications. For some reason it became too strong for his skin. I suggest just go straight to a pediatric dermatologist if you’re not really hardcore into the “all natural stuff”. I should have done it sooner and not experimented with bunch of creams on my own. My son is way better now than he was 5 months ago after I consulted a dermatologist. He still gets flare ups from time to time but no more weeping eczema for him. More women need to realize breastfeeding is not easy but it’s absolutely the best thing for your child in terms of nutrition (provided you have a good supply and no other issues). It’s okay to be overwhelmed but giving up so easily on something so important is sad. I might become a lactation consultant because I see so many women these days are completely lost and aren’t being guided properly when it comes to breastfeeding.
