Maybe you’re side-chaining a compressor onto the effects channel to “duck” it a little during the singing and increase a little during the gaps? Just completely guessing. 😀

Thanks. Much appreciated. The chain is the Puigchild 660 compressor into the CLA-2A compressor, a de-esser called ‘Sibilance’ and I’ve used ‘Soothe’ to tame some of the frequencies. There’s also a bit of EQ and noise reduction. The reverb is the LX480, which is a really good emulation of the famous Lexicon studio staple. I’ve set it to ‘Hall’ and set the LPF to around 5500 Hertz to give it that dark quality. The reverb is pretty overboard unless you’re listening on a decent system. Sadly most people hear it on their phones, in which case the verb gets exaggerated quite a lot. But on a track like this, with headphones or a half decent system, I like the dark, wash out effect. Hope that helps!

Thank you James. Well the Shure SM58 is still the industry standard. Can’t go wrong. As for desks, well the choice is endless. I actually use a TC Helicon Mic Mechanic pedal for my vocals; then it doesn’t matter which desk you use really.
