Harley Hanes - Harley, no. It isn't hard at all. It is a preferred method of launching from docks that are positioned parallel to the shore. It's actually kind of fun. You balance, keeping most of your weight on your outside foot so the boat does not tip back and slap the oars on the dock. When the blades clear the dock, you sit down, as these kids did, and tie in on the water.

It's a repainted Empacher and the German men actually rowed it at the Olympics when the Telekom was still their sponsor. You can row it now as one of the clubs where the German eight trains owns it and now uses it for practice and other races. :)

"well behaved, properly dressed and care about maintaining traditional standards". Listen to yourself. You sound like my granddad. These people are relics - they are the leftovers of Britain's colonial history. Cohen's just showing them up to be the out-of-touch museum pieces they are.

Kazakhstan isn't in Eastern Europe. The more you know. Besides, the fact that he's half Israeli, half British has nothing to do with his humourous abilities. Also, being a rower my self, I found this skit particularly amusing - the men he talked to are so cut off from reality that they make a perfect comedic target. Though I'm generalising, please don't do the same if you have no first hand experience. The people that his work exploit tend to deserve the business end of his hilarious creativity.

I'm no elite coach or anything but how do guys match up then? Are all the guys in your boat of the same height? Because the difference between two men who are 5'10 and 6'3 is the same difference between two men who are 6'2 and 6'7...both 5 inch difference. And for the latter, both are over 6'0...what's his reasoning there?
@chinggiskhaan12312 жыл бұрын
unity due to pace? he obviously doesn't really know much about unity to pace if he thinks all the guys of the same height will make a more rhythmic boat...there are crews with people of all sizes. seriously, the CAN and GB M8+ this year in london had guys as tall as 6'8 and guys as "small" as 6'1...how did they keep pace? they found rhythm in another aspect/ part of the stroke

i asked because my college team restricted rowers to be 6' or taller. the coach stated he wanted unity due to pace.
@chinggiskhaan12312 жыл бұрын
no, but you might want to err on the side of being a lightweight. however, regardless of the weight categories, height does help in this sport as leverage is a key component moving a boat. that aside, think spudd webb for the NBA and you don't NEED to be tall to be a rower, it helps but what you MUST have are heart, drive, dedication and mental toughness to do the work that is necessary to be successful.
@modblogger112 жыл бұрын
is it true that you need to be at least 6' tall to be a rower? I have been told I was too short to row. I am 5'11"
