Cody, this is great. What my ears are telling me is that this song could do with a real culmination in the last third. Rock the boat a little by adding another instrument or another melody, or even another vocal layer to harmonize. Keep it up!!!

This was wonderful. Your interest in the love of this series by the children over the years reminds me of L Frank Baum himself. I absolutely loved these books. I was a kid in the 1960s and come hell or high-water, I found a way to come across every one of the 14 books in the series and I still have them in my attic. When I retire, I'm going to read them all again because they were really interesting stories. Even an adult could enjoy them. Tik Tok was my favorite especially. What a wonderful man he was. :) Thank you so much for your efforts!

L. Frank Baum is one of my biggest literary influences, right up there with J.R.R. Tolkien, Tad Williams, C.S. Lewis, Brian Jacques, George R.R. Martin, Christopher Paolini, Patrick Rothfuss, Rudyard Kipling, and Homer. If George R.R. Martin was dubbed the American Tolkien (although frankly I feel Tad Williams is more deserving of that title than GRRM), I like to think L. Frank Baum was like the American Lewis Carroll, because his Oz books were influenced by Lewis Carroll, and yet he put his own spin on it with a dash of Americana from the Gilded Age while still making it distinct from Wonderland. I'm currently working on a fantasy book that was inspired by The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss and Jim Henson's 1986 Labyrinth, which was heavily influenced by The Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, and other books that gave rise to the isekai trope as the term is known in Japan. All in all, I really did enjoy your retrospective on L. Frank Baum and his published works.

Love both covers. This one I can feel a John Denver Vibe. Very interesting. But I also noticed a lot of vocal change between the most recent and back then. Still healthy voice. Sound a little tired but in a chill kind of way. The older version you sounded younger and very energetic. You still express alot of feeling in both versions. Which is actually nice to hear.

Much of the OZ concepts, characters and story line - as well as the inspiration for the character "Dorothy" - came from his younger sister - Mary Louise Baum (1847-1933). She was born in Cortland, NY and married Henry D Brewster - who was the Village Fire Chief of Weedsport NY. Mary Louise Baum Brewster lived in Weedsport for many years. Later, L Frank Baum and his wife would take the train from Michigan and (later) California to visit his sister in Weedsport on their way to NY City. When the very first pages of the "Wizard of OZ" were printed - Baum stood and personally arranged the pages and binded them together and presented them to his sister Mary Louise as a gift. The OZ Museum is at 219 Genesee St, Chittenango, NY , but the family lived all over Central NY. Baum's childhood home was located at 2601 Brewerton Road, Mattydale, Syracuse, New York - but a fire on February 25, 1899 destroyed it. That site is now a parking lot. Baum got the idea for the "Yellow Brick Road" from North Syracuse's "Plank Road, which was yellow in color. The forest scenes come from the woods of North Syracuse. If you go behind the Middle School and can still see the actual trees - (they are all marked with a big plaque with this information). His idea of the Scarecrow came from those he passed by in the local farms. He would get his idea of the Poppy Fields (where Dorthy fell asleep) from his farms own rose fields (the family raised roses and tulips for export). Also, Baum's idea of the Wicked Witch came from a mean old neighbor that hated his pet dog. His idea of the Air Balloon that breaks away came from an Air Balloon that once broke away in downtown Clinton Square in Syracuse, NY.

The scene of freezing Gloria's heart in the film, His Majesty the Scarecrow of Oz, is very cleverly accomplished by camera movements, multiple exposures, and cross-fades. It is surprisingly effective. Baum was fascinated with effects like miniature work, multiple exposure, black-on-black illusion, and stop-motion (still in its infancy). He would surely have loved the 1939 film.
@majkus

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle could have told Baum a thing or two about trying to end a popular series. Actually, Holmes was so popular that Baum must surely have been aware of its publication history.
