sub 3-hr marathoners on less than 10 hous/wk training... OK so let's say 7:30 easy pace that's still 80 miles per week. Doubt they are doing nothing but tabatas and 1000-meter "long" intervals

So how do you explain Galen Rupp, and Mo Farah? Oh thats right, you probably don't know them; Galen is the SILVER medalist at 10,000m and Mo is the GOLD medalist at 10,000m AND 5,000m. Both Galen and Mo log in 110+ mile run weeks. A better example is Cam Levins who used to run 150+ mile run weeks and won an NCAA title.

Let's get one thing straight. He hasn't run a 100 mile race. He's walked it. His 100 mile time is equivalent to someone running a 20 second 100 or 7:40 mile. It's incredibly slow. His ignorance to training properly is astounding. Really...you walked 16+ min mile pace then dropped sub 8's the last 4? That's when ou knew you had something...wow.

You are ridiculous. Performance dose not mean a decrease in time. It could be improved mechanics throughout the race, better stride or cadence and so on. You should be better every time you race, THAT IS THE POINT! Technique, if you work on it, always improves...ALWAYS!

Their position is that most athletes don't run a marathon to strut around like a daisy at the end of it. Brian Mackenzie doesn't seem to understand the sheer amount of science that has accumulated behind harrier development. The way he presents it, by selling it as better in every way than the training people have been doing for over a hundred years, makes it snake oil (also the fact that he is wrong). He's no better than the folks selling the too-good-to-be-true infomercial products on tv.
@ChristopherKelsall
@ChristopherKelsall 12 жыл бұрын
No there are not studies that go back to the 1930s on that. Arthur Lydiard from the 1950s proved and the Kenyans and Ethioians prove that volume of training is absolutely key. You do have to do good volumes. Very few runners even at the elite level will ever see their race performances everytime out improve, this is nonesense. In fact I don't think anyone can, that doesn't even make sense. This guy should not be coaching running. Sorry.

this guy can probably do 10x as many pull-ups as I can. but he knows dick about distance running. he should google ed whitlock. clearly, his agenda is to hype his program. there are probably dozens of reputable scientific studies that disagree with his statements and that don't have a financial agenda. saying that cross training is helpful for overall fitness is fine. saying that running slowly can't help one to get faster at any distance ignores the simple scientific facts. gay tats, too.

I think CrossFit has a ton of benefits to athletes and even general public, but I hope this guy doesnt coach marathoners. His argument against overtraining is that sub 3 hour guys run less than 10 hours a week. Ok at seven minute mile pace, typical pace for an athlete of said caliber, theyd be pushing 70-80 miles a week with that time frame. Sounds like a fair amount of running to me! And thats what it takes, as previously mentioned. Essentially from 800 up these IS research that supports build

everything is based on bad science and poorly conducted studies. he's trying to sell you reebok and vibram shoes. i'm not saying everything about CF is bogus, but a lot of it is just simply made up. running slowly DOES make you faster at all aerobic distances, 800m and up, by increasing aerobic capacity. i thought everyone knew that, until today. there's a reason you don't see any T&F, XC or Road Runners doing cross fit (and no, your local 2:35 marathon friend doesn't count), sorry guys.

I would assume he's talking about running slow. Running long and slow has been a technique to run fast for a long time and it works great. Read about Arthur Lydiard. In addition going out and running "just to run" most certainly improves your fitness. This guy is a moron

This is just (anecdotal) accounts of how athletes are behaving after a race, with nothing about their actual performance. In fact, there really isn't any empirical evidence that has been pout out by you crossFAD folks. That's why I'm calling BS on Mr. Mackenzie's claims.
