Maybe watch it first? Then decide if you still hate it? I was unimpressed by the concept of Cats the movie, till I watched it, then I was sure it was terrible. 😂 Thankfully Borderlands is not Cats.

Your "history" part is incorrect. The oaty biscuit with coconut was not developed until after the war. What was sent to the troops was not from home cooks but was cooked for the army. It was a lot like hardtack, but a little lighter and with actually a little flavour. Also, I don't know what you are holding, but it looks like no ANZAC biscuit I have ever seen. Maybe in Aus and NZ the recipes drifted in different directions.
@BenSorensen15 ай бұрын
That is a very passionate comment for a video about a snack! Here in Australia, what we call an ANZAC biscuit (not hardtack or ANZAC wafer) first appeared in print in 1916, and made it into the “war chest cookery book” in 1917… so it was around for the war on our side of the ditch. The army here didn’t make them till much later on, the first lot were home cooks. I’m holding a mass produced version, although not pretty, technically it is still considered an ANZAC biscuit based on its ingredients.
@itsamindgame91985 ай бұрын
@@BenSorensen1 I AM here in Australia, and yes I am passionate about our history. I assumed you were in NZ based on the look of that biscuit - and we know what happens when one assumes. Maybe it doesn't carry into the video well, but that biscuit doesn't seem to have rolled oats, at least beyond a token one or two. If it was merely a snack, you wouldn't have bothered with saying it has a rich history. You specifically mention the ingredients of a biscuit that you say was sent to the soldiers. That recipe, with the desiccated coconut, did not exist until later. The 1916 recipe you mention was not like what we would recognize as an ANZAC biscuit and was not sent to soldiers at Gallipoli. Eggless oat biscuits have been around since the mid 19th century, but again were not sent to Gallipoli. It's a pleasant enough myth, but still a myth.

This movie is like a mash up of The Talented Mr Ripley and Knives Out but without the character study of the former or the fun of the latter. The satire fell totally flat and because it had nothing substantial to say, the provocative scenes came across like a teen trying to be edgy for edginess' sake. Absolute disappointment of a film. Acting (especially Pike) was great as was the cinematography.
@BenSorensen19 ай бұрын
It’s very polarising… character study is nowhere as deep and certainly not fun at all like Knives out. But I don’t think it was intended to be fun! I found it made more sense viewed after reading Wuthering Heights for context. Agreed the cinematography and acting were wonderful!
@mmbaines9 ай бұрын
@@BenSorensen1 The parents' characters definitely verged on camp, and certain scenes were deliberately funny - the lunch after Felix's death etc. For context I'm an English teacher so yes I'm fully aware of the Bronte influence, as well as the fact it's pretty much a modern version of Brideshead Revisited. The movie could have been great if it leaned into the social satire and was actually biting, OR leaned into campiness. As made it doesn't do either, has nothing to say, and suffers badly for it. One of the more disappointing films I've seen recently.
