When Sondheim, as Producer, sings, "Dee..dee..dee..deee..." It's to the approximate tune of "Some Enchanted Evening" from "South Pacific," which was written by Oscar Hammerstein, who was Sondheim's mentor.

Sondheim was wrong - he wrote some great hummable melodies. He just let some people judge his stuff who wouldn't know a great melody if it bit them in the butt.
