To be honest, the pushing mechanic is still in RDR 2 but not as a dedicated button but simply as a physics implicated action, you need to have enough speed so that your characters mass can toss someone away, and fat arthur has bigger pushing than fit arthur but cannot run as fast

The different phisycs from the fact that RDR 1 uses the Euphoria engine, which is a video game adapted version of Endorphin’s engine which was, at the time, the most realistic available.

I had way more fun with rdr1 than 2. Felt more western to me. 2 blew me away but not as much fun.

Also, i think that the shooting and npc behavior is radically better in rdr2. Same with a lot of the "cause and effect" type of stuff in-game. From endings and just common sense stuff youd expect to happen, happens often in many different situations like hogtieing a random criminal and taking him in for a small reward. Stuff like thatbis amazing. I recently replayed rdr1 and i was struck by how much I forgot about how the game feels. The npcs are ridiculously accurate, the overall vibe and feel of the game isnt like rdr2s. Rdr2 tries to be like a plane simulator. Its trying to immerse you in the world and time period in every way. From being able to read letters in-game rather than in a menu or text box, being able to "check" your weapon when you clean it, horse care, being able to duel draw on anyone. The fame system being taken out for a good reason is also incredible. Another studio wouldve shoe horned stuff like people knowing your name without thinking about the story implications of that. Im glad that they took rdr2 in the direction of a more grounded feeling gameplay. Everything is deliberate, slower paced and it just completes the fanatasy of a western along with other flavors of 19th century period movies and dramas with st denis, the south reminding me of gone with the wind or other dramas set in the antebellum (i forget if this means post war or pre war forgive me. I mean post) south. Its a game i can play forever. Easily have a few thousand hours. Rdr1 l, while having a few touches that rdr2 shouldve kept, blew it out of the water in every other aspect. The philosophy behind how the games were built couldn't have been more different. Even comparing online you can see the influence of the times they were made in with the 2010s creating a massive leap in how action adventure/rpg games are created and what people believe is possible in the genre.

Well, knowing him by name makes less sense in the context of rdr2. Arthur is actively trying not to be known by name. The npcs grabbing on to shit is cool but rdr2 does a whole bunch of shit rdr1 doesnt do as well and interacting with npcs is also less satisfying. Rdr1 on the whole feels very "arcade-y" less simulation and more "game-like." While i love rdr1, even if they remade it, i think id still love rdr2 more. The one thing id love for them to do for the people that want it is to skip animations for pelts and looting. Make them loke online. Having that option for people who want it would be awesome.

You left out instant executions. Walking up to somebody and pulling the trigger without aiming would just trigger a small close-up animation of you shooting the guy in the face. Sh!t actually got me most of my progress through Undead Nightmare.

i actually started playing rdr1 for the first time on my old ps3 from time to time (i found a broken ps3 outside along with a few games including rdr1) and spent 10 minutes pushing npcs down the stairs in the first town you get to when entering mexico

I love the graphics, if devs intead of become obsseded with realistic games over gameplay they could create such creative games. Like imagine if they add 👽 onvis in rr2? is a videogame just add funny shit. Or massive wars, guilds, gang battles, conquer territory, invade others lands, massive races, change your body by training, chlotings, invent machines, having yo eat sleep piss etc. Instead nothing Changed more than graphics

Idk how o explain this, but I think this is it.. RDR2 models looked more accurate to what a human being should look like, like it is more realistic… But it lacked the fine details, like the ambient occlusion on the face lines to make it pop, like RDR1 had.. Resulting the model in RDR2 to look a little flat..
