Herol in his prime with his best win, and one of his great performances. Poetry in motion from the Sheffield dancing master. His silky skills made Kalule look ordinary, and his power punches sent him into retirement. Great upload!

@@kopii90blade Yes I guessed as much, and being an original recording of yours, it’s no wonder that the picture quality is so good. Amazing! And all the pre fight footage you have, with the weigh in, interviews and Kalule on the pads is brilliant, and must be rare also. I was at Herol’s world title fight against Mike McCallum in May 1989 at the Royal Albert Hall in London. He was unlucky that night. I have actually met him as well. He was living and working in North London as a trainer. I had a couple of personal training sessions from him 12 and 13 years ago. I idolised Herol, and was mesmerised by his defensive skills. Watching him inspired me to join a boxing gym in the late 80’s.

It makes me feel sad to watch this, because 1987 should have been Herol’s year. He was an uncrowned champion in my eyes.
@kopii90blade4 күн бұрын
Yes it should, but that year he split with both Brendan Ingle and his girlfriend, so his mind wasn't fully on the job when he fought Kalambay. Thanks for watching!
@BikSingh004 күн бұрын
To split with Ingle at such a crucial stage in his career was disastrous, and surely could have been avoided. As was Barney Eastwood’s decision to pick Kalambay as a safe tuneup for a world title shot. And also bring in Panamanian trainers, to influence Herol to fight more aggressively against him.

I am from London and followed Herol’s career closely since 1986/87. These interviews with him on Yorkshire TV show just how revered he was in Sheffield. It would have been a great fight between him and Iran Barkley for the WBA title. One that Herol at his peak, and with is style could have won.

Chris Tremlett was quite a bowler. Tall, quick, could swing the ball and got some awkward bounce. Sadly, injury wrecked his England career.
@JustJezBeingJezАй бұрын
This whole series was the greatest retribution after 2005. Not just the clean sweep but to do it so emphatically. The only other time we have dominated so strongly against England was the tour that Johnson just ripped through them and caused Jonathan Trott to have a psychological retirement.

@busydad48583 күн бұрын
The Johnson series was more of a walloping than this. England were in some decent positions in 2006 at Adelaide/Perth and later at Sydney but let them slip. Whereas they were never in any of those games in 2013 and by the end of the series were genuinely bollock scared of facing Johnno’s bowling, he would come on and take a wicket straight away. Trott had deep seated mental health issues btw which predated his stress related retirement.

@@kopii90blade Correct. My family had been season ticket holders for decades. The 1989 season I was just a young boy. It was the season I fell in love with the Giants. It was supposed to be sort of a rebuilding season. But, they shocked the league and overachieved. They had such fight and resilience in them. When they lost to the L.A. Rams in the Divisional Playoffs, it was the first time I experienced that terrible sick feeling of loss in my stomach. Since I was such a young boy, I had never experienced that feeling. I remember in the late 90s when I found out the first girl that I loved had cheated on me, a friend asked me how I felt. And I immediately thought back to that day in 1989 at Giants Stadium. I felt like I had been punched in the stomach. So, one might think I would have hated that season then. But, as I grew older it had the opposite effect. How does that old saying go, you can't have the sweet without experiencing the bitter first. That season made me appreciate the forthcoming Super Bowl victory even more. I don't think they would have won the Super Bowl the following season had it not been for that 1989 season and the adversity they had to go through. And the same goes for life.
