The hostess stated that the dining room, whose floor was covered in marble, had openings to the outside that were probably closed off with curtains. That is hardly weatherproof. Why wouldn’t it have been closed off with glazed windows just like all external openings? That’s like saying the Romans didn’t build with steel beams like we do today because no evidence of steel or iron beams have been found. However we know steal/iron decomposes in the weather. Naturally you wouldn’t find evidence of steal/iron beams. Yet we know they had steel/iron weapons. We know they fireproofed timber with Alum. We know that today Alum is used to purify water reservoirs. So why would they not have used the Alum to purify and filter their water supply. After all there was so much water used for fountains and public baths. Everyone would have died of cholera otherwise. We know they used porcelano ash for making concrete. And it is probably the word from what porcelain was derived. So why wouldn’t they have used potash to make soap, the way we do today. What good are public baths without soap after all?
