Add this very practical application: don't drive angry It's plain from experience, too, that anger impairs judgment. It also is necessary to note that neither acts of anger nor statements or non-verbal expressions of anger, nor even merely angry thought are forbidden by halacha. It's what an angry state promotes or sustains that results in aveira. With respect to Rambam's characterization of Moshe's aveira, isn't it so that Moshe failed to do as H' instructed? The anger facilitated that divergence from H', but it was the divergence from H's direct instruction that may have been the aveira, not his otherwise permitted though negative (dangerous, unworthy) emotional state. Anger is the contradictory of 'happiness'. Rather that exercising a focused effort to participate and harmonize with being-in-general or H's directive (Being Itself), 'anger' constitutes a rejection and antagonism to the perceived reality, or, in Moshe's case, to H Himself. That certainly is a valid way to understand Moshe's aveira and begin to understand its consequences.

Small correction- the RADBAZ and the SHULCHAN ARUCH lived at the same time: the former from 1479-1573 and the latter from 1488-1575
