Was that a Miller press I saw in there? I used to work for Finlay Brothers here in Bloomfield CT as an offset 4/c operator. But I considered it a real joy and delight to run the Miller letterpress they were using as a diecut press. Everything was mechanical. I moved a metal lever to start the sheets feeding. Another lever engaged the impression cylinder. Yet another lever controlled the speed of the press by being directly connected to the drive motor. There was nothing on that press that was controlled by a button. It felt like true craftsmanship, unlike the sweat-shop production of the offset ManRoland presses I normally ran. It was one of the best jobs I had the pleasure of running.

My parents had a copy of The Green Book which for some reason, was kept either in the pantry or the linen closet. It was old and had water stains on the cover. When my parents passed away (my mother in 1991, my father in 1994) we ran across that book while we were cleaning out the house and threw it away thinking it was a useless pamphlet of some sort that wasn't worth holding on to, not knowing what we actually had. I only knew about the true significance of that "useless pamphlet" in the last couple of years watching documentaries and videos like this one. If i at least had known then cleaning out my parents house what i know now, i would have saved and perserved that book, stains and all.

Hello! I am a museum curator from Nottingham, England and have been working on a project for the last 15 months researching the local history of printing. We have several 19th century platen & lithographic printers and I am researching their operation and how the different parts relate to each other. This video was a great help! Thank you so much!!

Ive watched this video a half dozen times and it still fascinates me. The use of wood type as it was back in the 1800’s still being of use today to produce masterpieces of posters to grace any wall. Keep it up! - from a former, fellow letterpress lothareo.

Why didn't anyone address the elephant in the room? Bearden was biracial, not merely black. Frankly, his insistence on being just black will likely damage his legacy, given that the direction we're heading appears to be "race is what you look like." There's a reason Quanah Parker is more well-known than him. I'm not the only one who remembers that Odysseus was likely a pederast, right?

Only 1.3% of the art in major museums in this country is by black artists. Their exclusion because of their race calls for focus on their art as a group.
@lawrencediggs7957 Жыл бұрын
Is this opinion based on research? Is it possible to get rid of the "ghost of racism" when it is still alive and devouring people? While "race" is imaginary, racism is real.
