Difference in graphics between 8-bit machines and 16-bit machines were mostly colors. Storage space was limited so there was less bits per pixel and hardware was also optimized to keep graphics compact. So sometimes graphic were partly half resolution in 160x200, or graphics were 320x200 but with monochromatic palette on 8-bit computers. Technology doesn't necessarily limit to make good graphics. We have nice black and white movies or monochromatic images. There were budget limitations and artist skill limitations back in 8-bit era. 16-bit machines were like moving black and white movie to color movie, but storage space was still huge limitation. Games were often very similar but more graphical fidelity, but animation frames were limited, not much of video or voice overs. 32-bit machines have much more computing power and memory, and storage space was increased in CD-ROM so that almost removed limitations how much to animate or what sound to have. Textured 3D-graphics were made much earlier than Mario 64. Example Ultima Underworld or Descent. After that it is mostly increasing resolution and fidelity but how graphics were made didn't change much for long time. New things were facial animation in late 00s and photogrammetry in early 2010s. Photorealism is actually old thing. We got that when games graphics were photos. We saw CGI photorealism when games used photographs in textures. About all limitations were history when we got photogrammetry assets somewhere in 2014.

Using Helldivers 2 at 0:39 in this opening point is a complete opposition to what you claim tbh. Helldivers 2 is an amazing game in terms of graphics with just splendid visuals even on low settings. Horrid example for this argument.

edit: oh my god lmfao seeing Days Gone right after that is yet another blow to that argument

“It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child” - Pablo Picasso people who aren't visual artists often think that photorealism is peak of artistic skill, but can you call it art if it perfectly simulates real life without any artistic interpretation? and just to clarify, realism and photorealism are different categories, with the former allowing for countless different art styles (like portraits from disco elysium). realism is a scripted and edited movie, while photorealism is security camera footage of a sidewalk. it might've been fun as a novelty, but when that's all you get, it gets dull very quick

there's a saying among visual artists that style is just how you solve challenges: for example, hand-drawn cartoons were mostly cell-shaded because consistent soft shading takes way more effort. while videogames have always strived towards photorealism, the technology wasn't there, forcing the devs to get creative. it's impossible to look at a screenshot from halo and think it's metal gear solid 2, despite them being released in the same year. but now that creating photorealistic graphics is trivial, there are no challenges to solve and little to no creativity in the visuals of aaa games

Great video, man! But I also want to point out something. For the naval content, it makes sense for Shay to do it since you are battling against Assassins and French soldiers on the high sea, which would contribute to the war effort that Shay does seem to care about since he does side with the British. Also, he would need some way to find the supplies needed to renovate all the land that he captures and has access to. Once again though, great video and you deserve more than 348 views

Have you ever play this game in it come out of the first time you and then play the hole game 10 years later and you say that I still think that AR rogue is still better than AR Unity and AR 3

I agree with your points. Unfortunately, gone are the days of Sony trying to be different or unique in the games they put out. Gone are the days of me wanting a PlayStation because of the sheer plethora of unique experiences I can only get on PlayStation. Being on PC now I still probably wouldn't buy a PlayStation but the point still stands that they just don't even try anymore. I mean the fact that more truly unique IP's and games launched on PS2-PS3 than on PS4 and PS5 gens put together says something. I just want Sony to try and put out more Little Big Planets or Fat Princess type of games, Medevil etc.

If we go by this trailer, the combat looks like it's going to have slow mo finishers and be AC brotherhood levels of badassery. Also, I think they hinted at Arkham Knight/Ghost of Tsushima style chain assassinations in this 👀
