Too bad Castle kills her in the end. To be honest, I saw it coming when he started abusing her. The scene in season 7, episode 7, where he cuts off her left finger, still gives me the creeps.

The central problem was Beckett knew she couldn't hold on to her ice cold intent on revenge (not justice) for her mother's murder and the love she felt for Castle and her knowledge of the depth of his love for her. If Beckett gave into her love for Castle she would have to abandon her "death wish" pursuit. But at the end of Always as Beckett dangled from the ledge with her hands slipping she realized she didn't care her imminent death meant her Mother's murderer would get away but she would never see Castle again and how she had pushed him away. if you listen closely to the scene you hear Castle's voice, not the detective who grabs her. Given the depth of Beckett's trauma it took the stark reality of dying for her to accept what her heart had been telling her..nothing mattered to her but Castle.

Honestly the show was better because of the ladies. None of the ladies brought the show down. But some of the male roles were boring and lackluster. Castle wouldn’t have lasted a full season without Beckett. Castle just wasn’t that good of a character. When they chose to not have Beckett return it was awesome that the fans said no way.
