I know this video is three years old, but just a small thing I noticed at the beginning: when you say people can use the metric system, you say they can use "a 30 foot tape" instead of "a 30 meter tape." Very nice video though, thank you!

I am from Kerala, which is a tropical region on the southern part of India. This farm which is showing is exactly a replica of my region. I am wondering how the culture, craft, food and the trees are the same in the extremly a different continent.

Man, I really want a pond. Can't bring in heavy equipment to our property. Can't afford it even if we could. Might try just hand digging. Probably take years with our soil lol :D

This diagram makes it look like you're bringing in foreign fill to fulfill the volume requirements for the dam construction. Is that true?
@resiliencepermaculture75856 күн бұрын
No we haven't brought any outside material into the ponds we've built.

Why the ridiculous focus on carbon storage? Don't you know that plants need CO2 to flourish?

Colonialism, Capitalism, Imperialism all raped & pillage, destroyed, committed genocide against native indigenous Indian people. All for king & country. When in fact their civilization was stone age civil engineering marvels, agricultural geniuses, and mathematically advanced. Now, that Capitalism has ruined the environment we see biochar being sold at the local Home Depot, Lowes, etc. Ridiculous! If we don't put a DEAD STOP to all our pollution we will being ourselves to extinction.

Monoculture in planting is a disaster for the environment and for human health, on the other hand polyculture as it is practiced in permaculture is very good for the environment and for human and animals health.

Hey Marisha! I took an online PDC through Oregon State a few years ago and you were one of the lecturers. In one of your lectures you mentioned some unique crops/herbs you were selling to restaurants. I remember you mentioning Culantro, but I can't remember the other species that you mentioned. They seamed exciting and unique!
@MarishaAuerbach2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kerem ~ I have grown many things for restaurants including edible flowers, and specialty herbs like cilantro, nasturtium, miner's lettuce, purslane, and more. I've also grown some particularly ornamental varieties of some of the common vegetables like lettuce, beans, beets, basil, etc.
Somehow I think the layers are upside down in the soil jar test - sand has largest particles so settle at bottom. Clay is finer and settles last on top. Not the actual layers, the words don’t match.
@MarishaAuerbach2 жыл бұрын
It's true, the words don't match. Thanks for clarifying that. The layers are not upside-down in the jar, but the words do not correspond with how the layers are in the jar. Sand settles to the bottom. It is the largest particle size. Silt particles are smaller than sand particles so they settle in the next layer. Silt particles can still be seen, but they are very very small. Clay particles are too small to see with the naked eye and they settle on top. If you have lots of clay in your soil, it can take a while for your jar test to settle since clay is quite water soluble. Is mango tree a canopy species or middle level?
@MarishaAuerbach3 жыл бұрын
I would consider it a canopy species as it creates dense shade. There could be palms or tall nitrogen fixing trees above it.
